NoSucker wrote:

"I watched this video online. It seems this uncle in crutches pretends to fall down every day at this same bus stop in Tiong Bahru each day, between 7pm - 9pm.

"When someone approaches him to help him to his feet, he takes the chance to ask for money. It seems he pulls this same trick daily, and always at the same place.

"In the video you can see him get to his feet without any help, or even leaning much on the crutch in his hands. He even stands on his own two feet with the crutch tucked under his arm for a good few seconds.

"It's so sad to see our elders resort to such underhanded means to get money. I'm sure I would have fallen for his trick if I was there, good thing I watched this video."

If that's what floats his boat, then leave him alone. He's an old man, so give him a break. At least he's entertaining and puts on a show, quite a performer. Bravo!

Interestingly the short clip show a few things about Singapore daily lifestyle:

1. Sporeans like shopping; you see people carrying big bags, small bags, paper bags, plastic bags - anything which indicates they have bought something.
2. Sporeans in a hurry - people rushing here and there; no long queue at bus stop.
3. Sporeans are kind and helpful - these two ladies spend time helping old man.
4. Sporeans dressing very casual - T-shirts, chap chye combination, slippers.
5. Sporeans are civic-minded - the bus stop very clean - no litters
6. Sporeans like to take pictures and vidoes - this chap here bother to spend time taking this video; any thing seems to interest them.
7. Sporeans arm-chair critique alot. Any opportunity - good or bad - and some idiots here will link it to PAP, LHL, LKY, men-in-white (negative type), men-in-blue (negative type), civil servants, WKS,

Like what it says in a song, "too proud to beg, too dumb to steal". Probably can't sing too.

Leave him alone. If you pity him (real fall or fake), give him some $, otherwise just walk away.

what a stupid sinkie mentality. Give him some money. people should fuck him upside down and kick his ass for this.

It is stupid sinkies that gave him money to make him do this again and again.

You probably mean that the government is to blame, and I agree with you to a large extent.
My question is why the old man chooses to con his fellow citizens, instead of trying to ask his mp or grassroot leaders for help. Does he not realise that some of the people he is trying to con may be worse off than he is?
That's why I find him despicable.

Another phrase is "double confirm".

Also, "tuck *in* your shirt".

Double confirm = check 4 times.
Confirm = check twice.

"Tuck in your shirt" is ok, because there is also a "tuck out your shirt". :p

The old man was assisting some survey on how S'poreans respond to those in need. The results very positive - S'poreans are a caring bunch! Cheers.
