I've got a younger generation that thinks this is a natural state of affairs, not knowing how we got here, not knowing the base on which the superstructure is resting, that it is organisation, training, discipline and tough-minded leadership.
Without that, it will spiral downwards within five to 10 years, and we'll be back to square one and we can never rise again.
That first rise was a stroke of destiny. I had a brilliant team. We did not plan this.
But we knew that if we did not connect to the world, we'll never get anywhere. So we made the world our hinterland and we made ourselves useful to that world. How? By building First World conditions in a Third World region.
We trained our people to live and behave like First World citizens, not to spit, not to litter, not to make too much noise, be educated.
The Western media made fun of us. But we've got here. Will we always stay here? Not at all. The moment you have a weak leadership, the moment people lose their sense of endeavour, their effort, their discipline, you'll just peter out.'
