PROTESTING TOO MUCH, VOLUNTARILY UNEMPLOYED
“SINGAPOREANS who complain about foreigners taking away their jobs may be protesting too much… [Some Singaporeans] are voluntarily unemployed.”
TAN KHEE GIAP, Associate Professor, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Straits Times, Mar 2010)
This is the same NTU professor that brought up facts to show that Singaporeans were losing jobs to FWs only to be berated by then MOM minister Ng Eng Hen. A few months later this professor was pictured at a PAP gathering, in the front row clapping while Mrs GCT was on stage.
My, my, the times have changed indeed.
Just look at his statement, it is incoherent at best. He starts by saying that Singaporeans who have lost jobs may be protesting too much. He goes on to imply that this same group who have lost their jobs actually chose to become voluntarily unemployed.
What kind of logic is that?!?
Of course when he says that there is a group of Singaporeans who are voluntarily unemployed he is saying the truth as in any country there are people who prefer to remain unemployed for whatever reason.
But these are two different groups of people, those who were displaced by FWs and those that remain to be unemployed. To lump them as if they were the same group is preposterous.
Typical PAP talk. Words and sentences become incoherent when looked at with greater insight. This guy is talking cock as he seems to believe in it too! Perhaps he was misquoted.
