SINGAPORE: Elderly residents in Aljunied GRC who are paying more under the new distance-based fare system will soon get some relief.

They will be receiving a one-off $20 transport voucher.

The project will cost the Aljunied GRC some $70,000 and will be funded by the Citizens' Consultative Committee from each division.

Eligible residents must be 60-years-old and above who are paying more under the new distance-based fare system.

They must also reside in HDB 4-room flats or smaller, or whose monthly household income is less than $1,500 a month.

The vouchers will be available for application until October 31.

In August, Chua Chu Kang become the first constituency to provide a similar a one-time payout of $20 to those affected by recent changes to public transport fares. - CNA/fa
