The People Power and our Singaporean Democracy

Democracy has two sets of powers. It is the power of Politic and the power of Governance.

Politics

The power of politics is the powers of the people to express their political wishes in the parliament.

Governance

The power of governance is the powers of administration. It is a check and balance of Singapore constitutional theory.

We had the President Council, the Parliament house and the Judicial Council.

Conclusion

Since Dr Sun Yat Sen, we had talking about the people power but we still have a lot of space need to improve.

The President Council is appointed by Elected President. The citizen shall vote for member of President Council and the elected member shall vote for President Post.

The Parliament House was a one ruling party since Independent from Malaysia. We need a proportionate representation system to replace SMC and GRC.

On top of the Chief Justice, we shall elected a judicial council to supervise of judicial system.

Notice, moreover, that size matters on both the demand and supply sides of politics. On the demand side, smaller polities have less voter disagreement about the kind of politicians they want; on the supply side, smaller polities have less diverse candidates to offer. If Singapore had a hundred times as many people as it does, it would be a lot more likely to contain a Ross Perot ready to spend his fortune to challenge the status quo.
