THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has been in contact with two Singaporeans jailed for drug offences in Argentina. The New Paper said both were arrested in 2007 for trafficking about 2kg of cocaine each and are due to be released soon. One of them, known as 'Anna', has three children who moved in with different relatives after her arrest. Anna holds a valid passport and will have no difficulty returning to Singapore should she choose to do so upon release, said the MFA. It is international practice for passports of foreign prisoners to be returned to them upon release, so they can be repatriated to their country of origin. MFA said it will continue to render assistance to both Singaporeans. Anna's case comes as more Singaporean women are arrested overseas for acting as drug mules.
