A DISASTROUS pitstop sent Ferrari's title contender Felipe Massa from first to last in the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Brazilian, ahead of rival Lewis Hamilton and on course to take the championship lead at the time, was given the green light to go but the fuel hose was still connected as he accelerated away.

The hose tore off its mooring, spewing gasoline in the air and lashing a crew member who fell to the ground as the Ferrari drove away, less than 50 minutes into the race.

After realizing the error, Massa stopped further down in the pit with the hose trailing behind him, as stunned crew members rushed to help.
Having lost precious time, Massa rejoined the race in 18th position, wrecking what until then had been a perfect race from the pole.
He had been well in front of championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who started second.

The Brazilian was given a drive-through penalty for unsafe release because he almost collided with another car while leaving the pit with the hose.
The mechanic who was brought down by the snaking hose was carried away on a stretcher for a checkup at the on-track medical center.

A spokesman for Ferrari said the mechanic who had been dragged along by the car was not seriously injured but had been taken to the medical centre.
McLaren's Hamilton leads Massa by one point in the championship with three races remaining after Singapore.

In other incidents, Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr. crashed against a side protective barrier, while Ruben Barrichello found his Honda stopping suddenly.

Piquet was apparently unhurt, climbing out of his wrecked car before dashing across the track to get out through an opening.

Barrichello also found his way out of the track to mingle with spectators and shake their hands. -- REUTERS, AP

It is misleading by Shit Times to blame the incident on the driver alone as it was a technical glitch with the lights on the part of the crew was at fault. Blaming the driver entirely and not understanding the actual facts is like the usual run of the mill reporting in Straits Times.

For the past 15 years, I understand one fact about our Shitty Times. Read at your own peril, but draw your own conclusions from what you have read and not from what is actually printed. You can;t trust the Shit Times at all.

Right and wrong still is debatable with the blame game
till the cows come home!
But the ultimate objective for coming here is to win.
Yeah just because you know you have right of way you do not
look at the rear view mirror to double check !

Like you driving on the expressway, one idiot crosses the highway ! Knowingly you are right you ram into him like a corner pin !
What happens ?

F1 drivers are all hot blooded in their 20s. That is a costly mistake.
Every seconds shaved is seconds saved to lead to chase the pack.

Singapore is a land of opportunities.
The track symbolise hard work and team spirit.

How it's even more funny that a head of state with a retro hairdo has to personally hand miggle with drivers ! He should let someone else do it !

HOS should be our prata man and not arse loong. It was an anti climax to the award ceremony with Arse Loong looking like a retard giving away the trophy.

Wonder if anyone else had the same impression; the moment he presented the trophy to Alonso, it was like question marks all over the drivers follow by the bo hiew attitude. The whole episode of award presentation was like going thru motion. The euphoria of the winners died the moment arse loong appeared.

Basically, Shit Times generalised the Ferrari episode. Instead of reporting the circumstances leading to the incident. They chose to jump to conclusions and blame the driver entirely. A reporter should report objectively rather then forming his judgement on the article. And I agree with your comments earlier.

Even the live commentaries between the narrator and the Ferrari Manager; they tried to ask for Ferrari's opinion on the matter after the incident to analyse and rationalised the incident.

LHL will always appear in situations when it puts him in good light. For instance, when he is needed to cut ribbons, celebrate Singapore's selection as the venue for the Youth Olympics, and so forth, he will be at the front.

He goes MIA when there is a crisis to handle, like when MS made the toilet break.

The PAP probably doesn't even know what is actually a good photo-ops and the run up to a good photo-ops. Hence, it probably became a fiasco because of ignorance.

At least they should have just sent a babe or the F1 top guy to present the trophy.

It is your entitlement to point out the inaccuracy to the Straits Times.

The Straits Times does make revisions or public acknowledges inaccuracies in post-prints.

Do your country a service, if you care. You may find the change made in papers in a couple of days.

Dude, even if they revise, its for S'poreans' benefit, not for me. I don't even read the ST here. I read the Australian and SMH in Australia, man.

Blaming the driver entirely and not understanding the actual facts is like the usual run of the mill reporting in Straits Times.

As far as this incident is concerned, Massa was entirely blameless. The green light came on and he hit the gas! He did EXACTLY what he was supposed to do.

You can see the green light "hit the gas" cue at the 2.00 min point of this video
