Heard on the grapevine that present AG ( Walter Woon ) will be leaving soon and a new one will be appointed. If true, there must be some disagreement on policy or is it due to strategic differences ?

We're the citizens. We'll hire him.

In the meantime, please draw up a list and assign the potential candidates to the respective 'chopping blocks' comprising Dragon; Tiger and Dog.

Present AG kena left and right by the SDP until emperor buay song!

Many court cases prosecuted by AG exposed the stupidity and high handedness of Lee's laws. SDP came out winners while the emperor was exposed as one without any clothes on! AG secretly laughing to himself the damage he has caused.

Nothing to do with SDP.

There has been a growing rift between the AG and the Judiciary over sentencing and the many inconsistencies that are now commonplace. Remember the SPH Editor that got away from a jail sentence over a judge's mistake. If you notice that AG has been appealing a number of sentences. There are also a murmur that severity of sentences seem to follow socio-economic profile of offenders, a trait that was obvious with Yong. There is also the issue of CJ being in the limelight for international awards when there are serious independence issues.

I thought that they were working to fix the rift.

By the way bro on another issue, your comment about AC Wong is right. Now DCP, very quietly done and current CP is acting.

SENIOR Counsel Sundaresh Menon, 47, has been appointed the next Attorney-General, taking over from Professor Walter Woon, who is completing his two-year term on April 10 and is returning to the National University of Singapore's Law Faculty to resume teaching.

Mr Menon, managing partner of Rajah & Tann LLP, will take office from Oct 1, after he has cleared his other commitments, said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday. His term will be for two years in the first instance.

Mrs Koh Juat Jong, Solicitor-General, will serve as Acting Attorney-General from April 11 to Sept 30.

Mr Menon has been in practice for more than 20 years and is on the rise as one of Asia's foremost arbitrators. Leading international guide to lawyers, Chambers Global, in 2006 named him among the 40 top international arbitration lawyers in the world.

Prof Woon, who was appointed the Attorney-General on April 11, 2008, has made important contributions to the A-G's Chambers during his tenure, said the PMO statement.

Listing his contributions, the statement said he created a separate division for subordinate courts prosecution to enhance the development of criminal litigation skills. He also took a keen interest in the induction of talent into the Legal Service and ensured the recruitment of many young and talented lawyers into the Service. During his term, several officers from AGC were appointed as Senior Counsel, in recognition of their contributions and abilities.

Prof Woon represented Singapore in the negotiation of the Asean Charter, which is a landmark constitutional document for Asean.

'He has raised Singapore's international profile by hosting the International Association of Prosecutors Conference in Singapore in 2008 and playing an active role in various international legal fora. He also played an instrumental role in setting up the Centre for International Law at NUS to build international law expertise in Singapore and the region,' said the statement.

cool, bro bhoven. sammyboy beat ST's Breaking News !

Walter Woon always struck me as a conservative liberal.

More importantly, a patriotic free spirit.

He has done his national service.

Time to keep a distance from his pappy masters......

Walter Woon introduced the maintenance of parents law in parliament, making Singapore the only country in the world where it is necessary for the government to enforce "filial piety"!!!

Walter Woon also introduced the POA (Public Order Act), where one man protesting is considered an assembly!

Ever heard of an assembly consisting of one person? Truly a first in the world!

Menon is a professional, level headed chap who has no qualms about walking away from decision that is no right. Has had extensive international experience, uncovered the the damage done by Nick Leeson in the Barings affair. He was also the JC that sat on the Civil suit brought against Durai and gang.

Though a Singaporean, he spent his formative schooling years overseas as his dad was with the diplomatic service.

Dear B

Ohhh I believe he will be one of the new candidates for the upcoming GE

Locke

That would be a surprise...he had declined them in the past and I had thought that being a potential CJ was what he was really after! Let's see which constituency he will be sent to to learn how to pat babies, give out bursaries, adjudgate beauty contests etc...

He's a PAPie scum! :oIo: Under him, the elites got away lightly with so many crimes.

He is too young to be CJ. He'll likely try to get into parliament and be Minister of Law or at a later stage come back and be CJ.

But these traitors will hopefully be stopped!
