A BUSINESSMAN who hit a man on the face with a glass at a disco more than two years ago was given two years' jail and six strokes of the cane on Tuesday. Ng Peng Soon, 46, was convicted of causing grievous hurt to Mr Dwayne Koh Liang Hsien, 35, at Zouk on Sept 2, 2007 after a 14-day trial. He was also convicted of breaking the nose of Mr Howard Wee Inn Hwee, 31, a design consultant and boyfriend of Mr Koh's sister, at about 3.50am that day. District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim sentenced him to a concurrent one year's imprisonment on the second charge. The court heard that as a result of the attack, Mr Koh, a creative director who is now working in Shanghai, suffered multiple facial cuts on the left side of his face. Ng, who denied both offences, is appealing. Bail of $15,000 was offered and his passport remained impounded. He has convictions for burglary and causing grievous hurt in 1980 and 1983 respectively. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and liable to fine or to caning on each of the two charges.
