Online reactions to Singapore Grand Prix renewal largely positive

http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/gov...ive-to-singapore-grand-prix-renewal-meltwater

Meltwater analysed online reactions in the lead-up and during the F1 weekend between Sept 13-18 and found that 76 per cent of reactions to the last-minute deal were positive, while 23 per cent remained neutral. One per cent reacted negatively to the news. Meltwater looked at channels such as forums, Twitter and Instagram.

"In general, the Singapore F1 Race generates a huge amount of interest across social media, but the renegotiated deal by organisers and the Singapore government further bolstered buzz, reaching record levels this year," said Neil Brennan, area director for Meltwater Japan and South-east Asia.

You mean there was F1 in Singapore. Why, blow me down. Did not know it happened. It was so quiet.

Amazon challenged by air-conditioned malls, Alibaba in Singapore
http://www.todayonline.com/business/impact/amazon-challenged-air-conditioned-malls-alibaba-singapore

International Investors will laugh at such news:
  • Amazon has strongly affected NTUC and Cold Storage in the past 2-3 months. NTUC is eagerly churning their online promotions in recent weeks. Even local office stationery suppliers are feeling the pinch.
  • Redmart and Honestbee are both in troubles because of Amazon. Within 2-3 months, Amazon has a larger market share than these veteran players
  • Amazon is used to challenged air-conditioned malls in US and UK and their business model is different from Lazada/Alibaba because they run an in-house warehousing and distribution operation.
  • If you don't believe that Amazon is doing crazily-well, check out their delivery vendor (eg. Riverwood).
  • Amazon did not do anything special with their free 2-3 hour delivery program. It has been around for years in Korea, it just show how complacent our supermarket operators are. Amazon will think thrice before embarking on the Korean shores, but Singapore is an easy piece of meat.

China gears up to woo Singapore in bid for High-Speed Rail project to KL
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news...-singapore-in-bid-for-high-speed-rail-9415766
khaw-boon-wan-china-symposium.jpg

The title of the article humiliates China. It is like masturbating ourselves, making ourselves feel good or important. Woo? China need not woo us for the high-speed rail project
  • Technically, Malaysia calls the shot, not Singapore, because most of the track is in Malaysia (next destination from Singapore
  • If China wants to woo a particular city, they will build the rail for free. Eg. in Middle East (including rich states like UAE), Africa, etc.

Arts and sports communities have excelled in past 5 years despite initial concerns: Grace Fu

Our local sporting scene is in a mess,
Clean up the cronyism in sports management.
Held those in the wrong responsible.
Treat our athletes better.

Sports Council and NSA filled with saf officers, many of them are kakis. In recent years, local sports scene is really screwed badly and AGO did not step-in because of the connections of these officers. They are just in-charge of paying themselves well and spending the funds. The athletes were much lower-paid than these officers. They are arrogant and made the finance team made to bear the shit of the management lack of due diligence. Some are corrupted who ignored compliance and the less corrupted only know how to organize weekly "battalion runs", a ritual passed down from army days.

How many of them really care of our sports?
How many of them really love our country?
Our NSAs and Sports Council are loosely regulated, worse than NKF, but does our government care?

They are elites, we are shit.
Read deeper into Schooling and you will know the unhappiness. Behind even Soh or Schooling, there are hundreds more disgruntled athletes.

Addressing criticisms that she would not be able to act independently because of her close ties to the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), the former Speaker of Parliament reiterated on Tuesday (Aug 29) that she would continue to be guided by the principle of putting the “interests of people” first.

'It does us no justice’ to be pro-Government, say Singapore's mainstream media
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/new...nment-say-singapore-mainstream-media-10070790

Warren Fernandez, editor of The Straits Times: “Over the last five, 10 years we’ve tried extremely hard to be fair, balanced and objective because we see our role as not trying to play up one party or the other, but to give our readers as much information as they can to make decisions for themselves.

“If we were biased, we would be clearly called out on social media. It would backfire and affect our credibility, so we wouldn’t be inclined to do that. I don’t think it does anybody any service if we tried to … it would be a disservice to our readers, a disservice to our journalists, and ultimately I think a disservice to Singapore.”

Year 2003

SINGAPORE : Minister of State for Defence Cedric Fool said the Singapore Armed Forces had a 'white horse' classification for NSmen prior to year 2000.

He said the term was used to identify sons of influential persons to ensure such enlistees were not given preferential treatment.

Mr Foo was replying to a question in Parliament on Tuesday by Non-Constituency MP Steve Chia.

Mr Chia asked if there was such a classification and, if so, who qualifies to be classified as a 'white horse' and what privileges are accorded to them.
