Open Letter to Minister Yaacob Ibrahim

Dear Sir,

Your oldest son is now 22 years old. He has obviously completed his National Service obligations, or should have. Since there has been no announcement from you since 2011 on his status, (very strange considering that you are after all the Minister for Communication and Information). You were quoted in 2011 " His son, now 16, will serve National Service, just as he did, said Dr Yaacob, who is also the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts." As dual citizenship is not recognized by the government, and according to yourself, your children are allowed dual citizenship until age 18, we have the following questions for you:

1) Has your oldest son done National Service, and if yes, what vocation was he in?
2) Has he renounced his US Citizenship at age 21 or earlier?
3) If not, has he renounced his SIngapore citizenship??
4) If he has renounced his Singapore Citizenship, by what means is he allowed to stay in Singapore?

Thanking you in advance.

Sincerely,

Loyal Singapore citizens of Sammyboy Forum

A very good question to ask...Pappies always say they are whiter than white...so it's fair he gives a good account.

silence means he is hiding something.........

Yup, he has never committed one way or another. He claim the sons have until age 18 to decide. But that age is pass and gone for the oldest son. He has never mentioned anything, my guess is the son renounced his sinkie shitizenship.

Theoretically Yacock has done nothing wrong..as it's no one's business . But if his children has cheated the system they must come clean. I mean if his kids be USA citizens so be it. ...but renounce it in public...don't hide. But I think his kids will come back do NS..as White horse very hard meh? Than renounce Singkieland citizenship..

There is no need to renounce the US citizenship or for that matter the Singapore citizenship and it applies to everyone. No offence is committed. Once you complete the NS obligation you are home free. After you reach age 21, they will write to you to give up one and some do but there are others who know the law will keep both. Its not against the law as there is no law forbidding holding another citizenship.

There are some inconvenience such as not able to renew your Singapore passport when it expires.

If the sons are useless as in the case of the SC then it makes sense to remain in Singapore and use the father's connection to get jobs, call in favours and live of his legacy. If they are well educated, have qualifications and marketable in the US and the personality to adapt and progress in a 1st world country, then it makes sense to hold on to the US citizenship. They also have their uncle who was a President Scholar who moved to the US after his studies. Then they also have the mother's family.

Prof Arthur Lim's kids despite his lucrative practice in Singapore and enormous network of friends and contacts in Singapore are all in the 1st world countries. I think the son stays in the US but holds on the S'pore citizenship.
