India is just too big, too diverse and too complex for her own good. Any revolution can only lead the country down the path of disintegration.

History of south Asia had been going through the loop of merger and disintegration. And history didn't end after 1947. Eventually India will break up again though I can't be sure if we are going to witness it in our lifetime.

I laughed when those idiots talked about creating a hundred smart cities in India. China you have a chance, maybe - the smart cities will be created, thought quite likely we will get nothing. In India, just as well we fail early. There's no hope there.

There is a school of thought that India did not have the benefit of communism to get rid of myths, ancient and useless customs, and folklores that hold back progress. Remember the entire concept of the middle kingdom and the mandate from heaven. China went thru this baptism of fire which cleansed the country and made it ready for the future. Look at Japan and South Korea. It took a war to get rid of old rubbish and they had operate with a new model. Look at the Baltic states, Lithuania is powering ahead on many fronts.

India will continue to paddle in the cesspit for years to come. Until a revolution of some magnitude occurs in India it will be business as usual.

Communism would be a very good antibiotic for a country divided by economic circumstances, castes, religion and race. And plus it's worked for large agricultural countries like China. The other example is Kerala - where quality of life is comparatively higher under Communist party rule.

The problem now is India has missed the chance to modernise after colonial rule. In 2017 Communist rule is a proven failure. And western democracy doesn't work in country where there's abject poverty

Unfortunately Hindi as a common language has been accepted right across the subcontinent that no one talks about separatism or going their own way. Even the Sikhs who have waged war in the past to separate have accepted the status quo.

Completely agree on this. Its the largest democracy in the World but it is now the very thing that is holding them back. They used to reign all the way to Cambodia and even Bali and now the laughing stock of the World.

well, we can blame this all on Jinnah….for inciting the Partition and creating the whole mess.

churchill played that fucker just to achieve britain's political ends and he fell for it.

History might have played out differently had that not happened.

Pakistan is a failed state and sadly the resident bitch of China. They are hogged to their eyeballs in sino debt that they have no idea what is going on. Jinnah created a monstrosity.

Even if there were no partition, the embedded culture is too entrenched to achieve any result. You talk to anyone in the western diplomatic corp based in India and they will tell that they are shocked how little money is needed to get what you want. You can invite the top echelons of government for dinner and they will turn up without asking what the occasion is. The diplomats also do not use lawyers at all as it is a waste of time. And it all boils down to culture.

I believe the Indian civilisation had a head start because it was a fertile land closest to africa where all humans originated from. They had provided many spiritual (Hinduism and Buddhism) and mathematical concepts (zero) which seeded the rise of other civilisations since. You will need a large and well fed population to come up with shit like that.
