It just one of payment proposal but it actually benefits small traders who cannot afford a payment terminal or pay expensive fees for Visa, Amex,Paypal etc. The younger generation don't carry as much cash and their preference is epayments. Hawkers and traders are missing out on this market sector. You see market traders in South Africa use this.

A simple QR code on display on their counter is all that is needed. The moment the customer flashes his phone, the money is credited to the hawker's bank account and a notification for the amount is sent to the hawker's phone.

The race is among the epayment providers such as bank on whose protocol or ewallet is used more. Once a customer picks a particular protocol it will be his default payment mode from thereon like choice of browser. The small fees eventually adds us for the bank or payment provider. The small trader then uses the bank account for everything.

Take the the Oyster card of HK. The float on it runs into billions and the interest much be huge. Its the race to see who are going to be the default payment mode for the small traders.

It's probably a smart use of social media to generate news presence for future business opportunities and IPO. Implementing a nation wide cashless system is more about stakeholder management and political/corporate politics then it is about developing hardware or software technology. The platform and protocols are already there for quite some time, what we are missing is someone with the correct stature and temperament to galvanize all parties to adopt one single standard. There is no indication that Tan Min Liang can or is even interested in taking up such a role.

(Reuters) - Razer Inc, a gaming hardware maker backed by Intel Corp and Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, plans to go public toward the end of October in an IPO that will value the company at up to $5 billion, a person familiar with the deal said on Wednesday.

The company is considering a valuation range of between $3 billion to $5 billion, with a final decision on the size of IPO and its overall value depending on market conditions at the time of the deal, added the person, who couldn't be named because details of the transaction aren't public.

Razer filed for the IPO late last month in a deal that Thomson Reuters publication IFR said could raise around $400 million

Agree. Its now acceptance by small traders that will provide the momentum. Unlike the banks or payment schemes, Razer carry carry the cost the of going into this sector. Look at Paypal.

Its the same circumstances that surrounded pre-Nets. Once it kicked in after the AMK pilot, it now universal. I always wondered why they cannot leverage the same framework as Nets.

He is out of his league. Strip away all the trimmings and his company is essentially an upgraded version of a Sim Lim Square shop selling souped up gaming equipment. There is nothing in his background to suggest that he has the experience or expertise to propose an actual working model.

It does appear that he is a niche player. It is also common for man on the ground to think that all tech entrepreneurs know everything about technology. I read his exe summary twice just to ensure that I did not miss anything and the be fair on him.

Oic...the problem is if it's a Pappie cooked up scheme....the Pappie rent seeking behaviour will set in...which means pap wants to earn money 1st...in ang mor lands.. credit card use is more common n can earn points. So for me...QR code etc is not a need...and also the banks etc will want the cut...n Pappie want a cut...and if ppl don't use..pap will force it down every ones throat...tat is y Pappie initiative can only work in Pappie land where it's a captive market..wont be able to be exported...we have cash card n smart card...why cannot lump it into one?now with QR..I doubt pap can deliver

Last night, i read a webpage about his plans.

I sit on board of some external panel for final years student projects.
Honestly, if it is a final year business plan, I think it deserves a big fat D or F for the lack of substance.

I can tell PM that I can get him several good poly final year business students to come up with a better and more specific business plan.

Who's going to pay for the roll-out and maintaining it?

Who's going to pay for generating, verifying and indexing the QR-codes? You need manpower to do all the stuff plus tens of staff to handle customers' enquiries, complaints, etc... I'm sure these jobs will be outsourced to India, the Philippines or Malaysia.

When the day comes and the world is totally on cashless payment mode I am going to hate it when the internet goes down for hours like the MRT, I will have to stay inside the room at 27 Lorong 18 until I can pay for service rendered.

I don't expect him to know everything in the tech world but he too like the PAP must think we can't tell a difference between a proposal and hot air. The $10m is his money, no one would have an idea how he uses it. If he funded a germination lab to follow thru that might be taken more favourably.

I did expect much more from him.
Business is the closest thing to war and no good businessman would reveal his battleplan for all his competitors to scrutinise.

If the sinkie epayment competitors knew whats on TMLs mind, they would work much harder to make their own system succeed because the cost of failure is so much higher.

As for insulting our intelligence, every 3rd and 4th generation PAP ministar has done that a few times in their careers. He is treating sinkies like how we are used to, the same way a master treats a slave.

Go read Glassdoor reviews on Razer.

It is just another Sinkie company.

Don't expect much of this firm.

True Genuis like Steve Jobs don't need to resort to cheap shots for limelight.

I do agree on the part of equating it to war to some extent but at the very least in his exe summary he should hint of his ability, capability and the weapons that he has in his arsenal. He of course would be guarded on strategy and tactics. The exec summary tells that he has no clue what he is doing, or even he knows what good looks like. It like the the drunk ang mo who picked a fight with a small sized Singaporeans along Orchard Road, and the Singaporeans took a stick and walloped him good and proper.
