Police in Finland said they have shot a man who reportedly stabbed several people in the south-western city of Turku, reports said on Friday (Aug 18).
The man has been taken into custody after being shot in the leg, added police, who also warned people to stay away from the city centre. The incident reportedly took place in the Puutori-Market Square area.
“Police shot the suspected perpetrator in the legs,” police wrote on Twitter. “The person has been arrested. We recommend that people avoid central Turku.” Police did not confirm the number of victims.
British newspaper The Sun said there were reports of multiple attackers with knives.
It cited witnesses as saying they heard gunshots and others reported stabbings in the Market Square.
