Old Man was very intelligent. He believed in brinkmanship as a strategy to contain Singaporeans. Make sure that he and his government provide the necessary infrastructure to allow Singaporeans to eat and progress with a roof over their head and they will not revolt was fundamental. Singaporeans who feel oppressed feel that they can tolerate while hoping their kids will progress and achieve great things whether in Singapore or overseas.
For decades, Singaporeans compared themselves to Malaysia. As long as we are streets ahead of Malaysia and the rest of the region we believed we had nothing to worry.
He also made sure that no credible entity will survive to form an alternative government. So Singaporeans will continue to vote for the devil they know. Look at the opposition. They spent more time cleaning their own mess and thats because the PAP has only allowed the lesser ones to survive.
The fact that the PAP did not bankrupt WP when it had the chance tells you who is pulling what strings. The fact that a massive liability of more than $1m can be wiped away to allow entry into the 2015 GE is also telling. The fact that both Leonard and Low came from the same cohort and handled by the same lot on top of the hill using the OCBC branch as a front is not missed by some of us.
