PUTRAJAYA: A 36-year-old man who allegedly sodomised, raped and sexually abused his teenage daughter more than 600 times over a period of two years claimed trial to a multitude of offences today.

The bespectacled man who was brought before the Special Court for Sexual Crimes Against Children bent his head low as he was led into the courtroom, to hide his face from press photographers.

He arrived in court at 8.50am but the proceedings only began at 2.50pm as the deputy public prosecutors and the investigating officer had to count the charge sheets the whole morning before the proceedings could begin.

The accused, who was clad in a grey T-shirt, was expressionless when the charges were read to him before judge Yong Zarida Sazali for almost four hours.

It is understood that there are a total of 632 charges against him under the Penal Code, Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (SOACA) and Child Act 2016. However, only 182 were read out today due to time constraints, with the remaining charges expected to be read out to the accused tomorrow.

The accused, who works as a Unit Trust agent, was today charged with 150 counts of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent, an offence under Section 377C of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years jail and shall be liable to whipping, upon conviction.

He was alleged to have sodomised the victim three times a day each day throughout the month of March and between Jan 1 and 19, this year.

He was also charged with one count of raping the girl on July 21 under Section 376A (incest) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years’ jail and shall also be liable to whipping, if convicted.

He faced another 30 counts of physical sexual assault under Section 14/16 of the SOACA which provides a jail sentence of up to 20 years, and whipping, and another count for sexually abusing the victim under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.

He allegedly committed the offences between July 11 and July 20.

The offences were alleged to have happened inside the master bedroom of a house in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya.

In their objection for bail to be granted to the accused, DPPs Nordalina Ali and Aimi Syazwani Sarmin submitted that it was a non-bailable offence.

“The victim is his biological daughter. It is a serious case and the accused might abscond and harass the witnesses and victim,” said Nordalina.

Meanwhile, the accused pleaded for bail saying that he is bearing his father’s medical treatment cost.

“I have to take care of my parents and I have a car loan to pay. I also plead for a minimum amount,” he said.

However, the court denied bail and set tomorrow for the remaining charges to be read out to the accused.

The accused had been under police remand since his arrest on July 26, which was prompted by a report lodged by the girl’s mother two days earlier.

It was reported that the accused had allegedly been committing the atrocities since he divorced his wife in 2015.

The victim, who was living with him since the divorce, related her ordeal to her mother when she learnt that the man wanted to take her two younger sisters to live with them. :oIo:
