So why are samsters and so many keyboard warriors that quick to assume the Halimah doesn't have an axe to grind with the PAP?

She stays in a HDB flat in fucked up Yishun despite earning so much money for years. For all you know, she can't be bought with money. Have you seen how some of our grassroots advisers live?

Keling ah gong was a lifelong civil servant, be it in ISD, SID or MFA. Still a civil servant.

Elected politicians are quite a different group. Like towkays, many of them don't depend on politics or government for their wealth. Look at Michael Palmer. He is still doing very well despite leaving PAP in disgrace. For civil serpents, falling out of favour of the party could mean the kiss of death for their professional careers.

whoever is elected is supposed to be the holder of the 2nd key/custodian of reserves and that is why they increase the private sector requirement to that of a CEO of a company with S$500 million in equity and be profitable for the entire period that they served as CEO.
(why public sector need not meet this requirement is the subject of a separate discussion).
So how does helping mother to sell hawker food, cooking at home ,staying in a HDB, coming from the Northwest ect2 as highlighted by the ST makes the person a better custodian of our reserves?
And this is totally ignoring the issue of the malay criteria

Even the $500M equity is not good enough. That's why the incoming m&d president needs a council of advisor to tell the president exactly what to do when important decisions have to be made.

The m&d criteria is fulfilled by finding honorary m&ds. We currently have 3 honorary m&d presidential candidates. From what we see, an honorary m&d is as good if not better than an actual m&d.
