Ah Wu can appky for Chinese card and live in China there perpetual.

Why bother to go back Sinkinpore under his uncle gahment.

Its not extradidable, I don't think, but not too sure on this. In fact, it could go the other way, as there is a case for Shengwu to apply for green card (if he does not already have one), on grounds of political persecution and that the singapore govt will violate his human rights.

Thanks, I was not aware that VK Rajah was a judge. I thought he joined AGC straight form Law school, starting out with prosecuting traffic cases. Are you sure that Lucien was not a Judge. I am sure he was. Did he not rule on the Bukit Batok By Elections. Anyway the clarification changes the context. Thanks again.

Once again, you read the whole story wrong. VK Rajah was a Supreme Court Judge and had many years behind the bench. He has seen hundreds of cases come and go. He knows what will fly in court and what will not. Lucien on the other hand was never a Judge, and specialized in the corporate and banking law. Lucien never saw a criminal case himself. If VK was still the AG, he would have told Gay loong not to be a fucking clown and that his Chambers will not pursue such legal action against Shengwu based on something he discussed in private with his friends on FB. VK knows that he would be the world's laughing stock if he did so. But Lucien has no such qualms. He was Gay Loong's personal lawyer for many years, he will do as he is told, and will provide no resistance to Gay Loong. An experienced AG will know there is no case here. A friend and personal lawyer to GAy Loong will see a winnable case, ridiculous as it is. Rajah was probably asked to step aside when he would not play ball and let Lucien take over.

Shengwu does not need any advice. No from his parents or anyone else. the point he made in his FB page is entirely correct and defendable.

It is not the judiciary that is " pliant", it is the Lees who made it that way. The way the law is written, judges have very little leeway to show common sense.

Really? Well, I'd say that the letter and spirit of the law are crystal clear in the following section from the Parliamentary Elections Act:

"No person shall loiter in any street or public place within a radius of 200 metres of any polling station on polling day."

The then-AG, in a breathtakingly innovative lexical analysis of the English language, interpreted it to mean that 'a person inside a polling station cannot be within 200 metres of said polling station'.

Then again, some would argue that linguistic ontology wasn't the issue: said AG had perhaps discovered a law that transcends the Law of Relativity propounded by Einstein — one that permits a man to remain inside a polling station and not within a 200 m radius at the same time. If true, it would have been worthy of a Nobel Prize.

And he went on to become the Chief Justice.

These kind of cases, the " centre of a circle is distinct from a radius", you cannot win, but one should test anyway. The outcome is instructive. But I was not referring to this case. The direction of the government is to give as little discretion as possible to judges with particular attention to cases that might involve the government or government figures.

Are you very sure that, given enough discretion in the way laws are framed, our judges would then judge fairly in the spirit — not just the letter — of the law in politically motivated lawsuits involving a cabinet minister and an opposition figure?

Do you actually believe that we have a genuinely independent judiciary, free of any interference by the executive?
