Default Suspended sentence for Tai Tai - Double standards?

This is her 3rd time. She is wealthy and yet the court gave her a suspended sentence. And she has no excuses with her Filipino tomboys where she was open about nearly 20 years ago.

If it had been an ordinary Singaporean living in HDB flat do you think it will draw a suspended sentence.

Jannie Chan given 2-week suspended jail term for contempt

Jannie Chan was given a two-week suspended jail term for breaching court orders to stop sending her former husband harassing and defamatory e-mail messages.

    Selina LumLaw Correspondent
SINGAPORE - Prominent businesswoman Jannie Chan, 72, was given a two-week suspended jail term on Wednesday (Aug 2) for breaching court orders to stop sending her former husband defamatory e-mails.

It was the third time her former husband Henry Tay, 73, pursued contempt of court proceedings against Chan. He dropped the case the first time and she was fined $30,000 the second time.

The couple, who co-founded luxury watch retailer The Hour Glass, ended their 41-year marriage in 2010.

On Tuesday, the High Court sentenced her to two weeks' jail for her latest breach but suspended the prison term provided she stops sending Dr Tay any e-mails, she continues to undergo psychiatric treatment once a month, and keeps her ex-husband updated about the sessions.

If she fails to comply, Dr Tay can ask the court to lift the suspension, which means she could end up in jail.

Dr Tay first filed a lawsuit against Chan in 2014 for sending him 1,260 e-mails, between November 2013 and September 2014, which he said were defamatory or amounted to harassment.

Multiple court orders were issued, which restrained Chan from defaming Dr Tay and harassing him by sending him e-mails without his consent. But she flouted these orders and continued sending him e-mails, and he filed contempt of court proceedings against her.

The latest lawsuit relates to hundreds of e-mails sent between March last year and February, and between April and this month.

This is the third time Ms Jannie Chan's former husband has taken contempt of court proceedings against her.

Chan appeared in court last month to explain the e-mails. She said they were largely updates on matters relating to their daughter Audrey and Audrey's children, and the companies owned by her and Dr Tay.

During the hearing, she veered off topic several times, and raised grievances against her ex-husband's "Korean lady friend".

Its a good thing she is rich.

The money will come in useful for the pappies as they seem so desperate to crawl money from Singaporeans.....

Just wonder if the agc has KPIs on revenue collected from fines, etc for their officers? ....anyone knows?

You can dream. She will never sleep on the floor. She just needs to offer 20% discount for prison wardens who buy Rolex watches.

Seems like there are many older females running around Spore causing mischief in Spore

There was that auntie who was arguing with her neighbour over a tree. She also stopped her Ferrari in Orchard Road to argue with a van driver. Then she assaulted someone. Now you have this tai tai.

Females in Spore can be more aggressive than their male counterparts. Maybe it is the effect of having protections of the women's charter Or maybe they are just getting senile.

No lah, while married to Henry she and her gang played around with Filipino male dancers in the name of ballroom dancing. Week in and week out. Favourite location was Plaza Hotel. The only local gigolo was a retired Lt Colonel who thought he was god's gift to the female race.

You too can make up anything and write it up here, like he does. His "facts" are not verifiable. If they were, he would name the LTC. That is his MO. He will talk about this and that, like he has inside information and is connected. But he never reveals his sources. I don't have this problem. I tell people I know Ravi Menon quite well, which is true. I tell people I am from RI, true again. However, you will not find any personal info on him. respected forumners like Golden Dragon, you know exactly where they come from. His trick is to convince people that he is legit, has all this info, hates the PAP, then come election time, he will start whacking the oppo, the PAP fake shit he is. Now u know.

Open secret. Jannie Tay and Jennie Chua (Raffles Hotel) were openly frolicking with their Filipino toyboy dance instructors. Showered them with designer clothes, shoes and Rolex & Panerai watches. And it wasn't just the foxtrot and rhumba. Use your imagination.

Henry was a player too. He and Jannie had an understanding not to interfere in each other's ECA.

Jannie, together with ortho surgeon Yeo KH, was also a generous contributor to the Sathya Sai Organization. Kinda paying penance for her disabled child.

Stupid reporter is probably too young to know the truths.

With my own eyes I witnessed how Jannie Chan went down on her knees in Metro Beach Rd branch, wept and begged Jopie Ong to sell her The Hour Glass.
