The problem with Trump is that he is a simpleton. His solution to crime is to increase the number of police. Making America great=bigger armed forces.
If you look at the history of the US people have always seen the US as a place of opportunity. In the past immigrants came from the angmo countries like Britain & Europe. Now that they are coming from non-white countries, certain segment of the US e.g. whites like Trump are concerned.
The fact is the US is a very racist country. We can see this by how the blacks are treated in the US.
There are many gangs in the US, e.g. mafia, Russian, .... So why did Trump target a Salvadoren gang like th m13?
If you look at Trumps policies, the illegals who are victims of these gangs are now afraid of reporting crime to the police because they will probably face deportation. So they suffer in silence.

1. M13 is targeted because they are the worst of the worst. You have to start somewhere and this is a good start.
2. Trump is not a simpleton. However he does have simple solutions to complex problems and that is by confronting them head on and making it very clear what the consequences are.
LKY took a similar approach during the early days when Singapore was lawless and riddled with triads. He made it very clear what the consequences of being a gangster were. They would be locked up indefinitely under the ISA.
Same thing with drugs. He made it known to all that those caught with more than 15 gms of a hard drug would hang. Very few therefore took the risk and as a result Singapore has never had the same sort of problems that liberal nations are having to put up with.
In the West the war against drugs is deemed to have failed but that is because the authorities waged the war with one arm tied behind their backs and with pea shooters as their most lethal weapon. Had they adopted the LKY approach they could have won the war easily.
One of Trumps early successes was a huge drop in the number of mexicans attempting to cross the southern border illegally because they knew that they would no longer enjoy the "catch and release" luxury of the Obama era.
Australia has had similar success with boat refugees. They have made it very clear that no refugee boat will be allowed to dock on the OZ mainland. The liberals say it is cruel and inhumane but the policy has saved countless lives because word spreads and no potential refugee is going to risk his life in the open sea if he knows there is zero chance of gaining residency in Australia.
Rules have to simple and clear to all in order for them to be respected. Rules which can be bent, broken or ignored without consequence are of no use to anyone and might as well not be formulated.
