Interesting that you say this. But I think OYK has zero chance of care taker PeeM much less PeeM. I think this is so because amongst all the PAP leaders of his generation, he is the least controllable. He is the son in law of Sim Lian Group's Kuik Ah Han. That means, he is not beholden at all to the PAP. They can fire him, tekan him, etc. But his iron rice bowl is not civil service or govt Ministership. His iron rice bowl is his wife Diana. If he was made PeeM, he and FIL will plot and never let go of the post. Sim Lian will be bigger then Singland once he is in PeeM office within a few years. I don't think even Gay Loong is that stupid as to make him PeeM even for a day.

Old Fart had a legacy to protect. he wanted to season his useless son in the hopes that he will rise to the occasion. That is why he spend 10 years in the SAF, rising to BG. Then after that, a long time in the govt at various post before becoming PeeM. True, he had the cancer bout in between or else, he would have made PeeM much earlier. Wooden had to stay on longer then originally planned.

Gay Loong has no legacy to protect and no pride other then to make as much money as possible. Ho and Him are so arrogant that they are not even going to the motions to make HongYi look semi competent or to train and prepare him for a MP position much less the PeeMship. What the hell is wrong with these 2 assholes? They think they can just parachute their son into the highest position in the land. Ling was right when she says the govt does not care about you.

Perhaps he is, but don't expect too much from impressionable sinkie chinese-helicopters. PAP has plenty of them and they are not there to give independent ideas or provide new perspectives.

I would like Kee Chiu to take over. He was a former top general in the SAF. With him at the helm, sinkies can sleep peacefully at night.

I wonder if he's top or btm... Teehee...

HAHA you asked this Q in 2017
but none answered you???

Interest in Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s second son, Li Hongyi, has always been high – especially after he delivered a eulogy at his grandfather, founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s funeral in 2015. Hongyi is in the news this week after his paternal cousin, Li Shengwu, revealed that he is removing Hongyi from his Facebook friends list. Shengwu and Hongyi were once described as “very close” but cracks in their relationship surfaced in 2017 — the year that the Lee family feud spilled into the public domain and the year that the Government initiated legal action against Shengwu over a private Facebook post that had been leaked by one of his Facebook friends. Besides 32-year-old Hongyi’s rocky relationship with Shengwu, most Singaporeans are probably most interested in whether he will join politics like his father and grandfather.

In 2017, Hongyi’s paternal uncle and aunt, Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling, accused PM Lee of grooming Hongyi for politics. Hongyi responded to the allegations and claimed that he really had no interest in politics. Shengwu, however, pointed out that Hongyi’s comments on a potential entry into Singapore politics were “vague”. He told the press: “He only said he has no interest in politics, but my uncle Lee Hsien Loong also once said he wasn’t interested in politics when he was in his 20s. These words can easily be taken back.”

Speculation is also rife that certain ruling party members have been appointed to mentor Hongyi as a potential elections candidate. Respected international publication, the Nikkei Asian Review, has said that Heng Swee Keat is expected to mentor Li Hongyi to be Singapore’s potential fifth-generation Prime Minister, just like how second-gen PM Goh Chok Tong mentored Lee Hsien Loong.

While Hongyi’s potential entry into politics and the rift between the Lee cousins are hot topics that many may be familiar with, here are five facts you may not have known about the PM’s son:

1. He received a government scholarship to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
– Hongyi received a Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship to study economics at MIT – a renowned private research university in the United States. Hongyi earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics as well as a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at MIT in 2011.

The PSC Scholarship is the premier government scholarship, awarded to those who have chosen a career in the Public Service.

The Raffles JC alumnus also won the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science (LKY-M&S) in 2006 – an award that is given to select secondary, pre-university and polytechnic students who promote excellence in Mathematics and Science. The LKY-M&S is funded by private donations made by Hongyi’s grandfather, Lee Kuan Yew.

2. He discouraged his younger brother from taking a scholarship – Although he took up a scholarship, Hongyi dissuaded his younger brother Li Haoyi from accepting a scholarship.

Lee Kuan Yew revealed that Hongyi wrote a letter to Haoyi, who had just scored a 43 out of 45 in his International Baccalaureate exams, and advised him not to take a scholarship. Speaking at a dialogue in 2008, Mr Lee recounted: “He has written to his brother who has just got his Baccalaureate results, and says, ‘Don’t take a scholarship’.”

3. He was formally charged and reprimanded by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) while he served his National Service (NS) – While he was serving his NS in 2007, Hongyi was formally charged and reprimanded by the SAF for not following proper procedures in e-mailing a letter of complaint to many other servicemen.
Hongyi had written a letter of complaint about an officer from his unit and emailed the letter to the defense minister and senior SAF officers, among others, and breached the proper protocol to raise complaints. His action contravened the Ministry of Defense’s General Orders since his letter was sent to servicemen who were neither directly under his command nor in an official capacity where they could deal with the matters contained in his letter of complaint.

Hongyi was formally charged and administered a reprimand after a summary trial.

4. He runs his own unit within Singapore’s Government Technology Agency (GovTech), with its own branding, website and style – Hongyi has been employed by GovTech for over six years now. He started out as a consultant and was subsequently promoted to the position of Deputy Director. He now directs his own unit at the heart of GovTech that he founded, called Open Government Products.

While Hongyi’s unit shares GovTech’s resources, manpower and ethos, it has its own website and branding. Hongyi’s team also functions very differently compared to other GovTech officers and has its own unique work culture. Unlike typical GovTech staff, Hongyi’s team members are also not required to produce lengthy reports or presentations. Every January, team members also pause all non-urgent work and participate in a hackathon. He is PRO_CECA and most of the projects were outsourced to CECA. CECA recruiters only choose CECA who are either PR or EPs were selected for all the jobs. If you are a CECA naturalized citizen of Singapore. they discriminate and tell the application they only need the Citizens who have already done Cat A clearance because those who have done NS and working in IT industry are very few, some migrated to Silican Valley alreay.

5. He chose and edited Lee Kuan Yew’s portrait for his wake – In 2015, Hongyi’s mother, Ho Ching – CEO of Singapore sovereign wealth fund, Temasek, revealed that Hongyi personally chose and edited Lee Kuan Yew’s portrait for his wake.

Mdm Ho revealed that her son “wanted to make sure that those who came to pay their respects to his ‘yeye’ have the best experience possible” and thought that this was the “least he could do after so many had queued for hours, in the sun and through the night.”

She recounted: “He chose the photo for the big portrait on Friday night and edited it. He thought the photo reflected the yeye that he knew. The organising team ran around through the night to produce the portrait, and set it up by Saturday afternoon.

“Hong is also especially grateful to a young SAF officer who alerted him that an important display had been inadvertently put aside when the team set up the portrait.
“Hong went to take a look, and discovered it was the Proclamation of Independence signed by his yeye, no less. He quickly rustled up some support staff to put the Proclamation beneath the portrait, to complete the presentation for visitors.”

Now that the dust has settled a bit from the whole siblings feud, I look back at the whole affair and try to assess who is the biggest casualty of it. Although Hongyi cannot lay claims to being the most damaged, his parent’s aspirations for him to be the next Prime Minister certainly has.

We know for sure, from Wei Ling and Hsien Yang, that Loong and Ching were harbouring “dynastic” ambitions for their son, HongYi. Let’s be clear on this point. We are hearing this from the mouths of the Aunt and Uncle of this boy. This is not public speculation nor kopi shop rumour mongering. Ho and Lee were really going to advance the boy to be the next PM.

But the sheer laziness and complacency, and working to put in the minimum amount of work required for this to happen is audacious in its arrogance. I mean, what were they thinking? Were they just going to parachute him into the next election like so many ex SAF scholar general before him and think that it would be a fait accompli for him to be elected? Were they going to run the boy in the strongest GRC and assure his election based on this?

This is a huge insult to the taxpayer and citizens of Singapore. He is a Lee. He is not a Kee Chiu nor a Tan Chuan Jin, etc. all nobodies that no one ever heard of before they became Ministers. Because he is a Lee, he has to be held to a higher standard. His own grandfather would demand this if he was alive. He has to prove himself, he has to work harder then anyone else, he has to show the desire, will and talent. That his own father Loong showed non of these traits, becomes even more important that he redeem the family name and work very hard at becoming a successful future PM.

But he did no such thing. His parents have hidden him away from public view at IDA, and he is variously listed as a consultant at IDA or a deputy director at the Government Digital Services Data Science Division of the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (whatever that is). He has made no public appearances or speeches since his grandfather’s funeral. His future plans and his personal life and even his exact job description and career path are all shrouded in secrecy. Even Loong had more information on himself regarding all these aspects of his life when he was being groomed for the PM role.

Why didn’t his parents have him appear at rallies in the last elections? They control the media, I am sure some reporters at SPH must be drooling to do a puff piece on him. Why did they not have that done? Even doing some basic grassroot work or appearing at various charity and community events will indicate his career choice. Let the people get to know him. Let them see who he is, and let them get used to the idea that he will be the future PM. If he impresses them with his humbleness, brains, or sheer hard work, they may warm up to him and make that transition a little easier. It may be an easier pill to swallow. At least, they should move him around to various Ministries to experience and get a feel for how things work and how govt runs.

But non of this happened. Why? I suspect that the flaw lies in the person himself. He just does not want it bad enough. He wants it handed to him on a silver plate, and wants to do the minimal effort to get it. He already has a reputation for being a spoilt brat during his NS days and for shortcutting the chain of command. I am going to guess that he has not learned that lesson. Shouldn’t he go to his parents and DEMAND to sit in on some MPS with his Papa, or attend some fund raising activities? Better still, how about fundraising using his own family name? His appearance or support at some charity’s fund raising would certainly bring in tens of thousands of $ more. Heck, even if he just showed up unannounced with no fanfare to help prepare food for needy residents, would have been 1000 times better then this backdoor way that his parents are trying to promote his ascension to the throne.

Seems to me that they have lost control over him. Seems to me that he does not want the job at all, and like his father before him, he is being forced into this office. Seems to me like the citizens of Singapore deserved better then this entitled brat, who can’t even be bothered to put in a modicum of work to justify his future role of PM. Perhaps Uncle and Aunty saw through it and were alarmed that Loong and Ho were promoting such an unmotivated and lazy ass individual to the highest office in the land. Putting out a half hearted “I have no real interest in politics” Facebook post on a largely dormant Facebook account convinces no one. I suppose Papa and mama were counting on the supporting cast around him to assure that he will perform half way decently by taking credit for other people’s work, much like his father is doing now. That could be why the PMO’s budget keeps getting bigger every year and more and more Ministers are added to it.

But they have miscalculated. They thought that the sheer PAP domination and the cache of the Lee name will suffice to put this reluctant or lazy Dauphin into office. They should have make him put in some work, put him out in the public, create a positive image around him. That way, when Aunty and Uncle accuse him of being part of a Dynastic conspiracy, Ho and Loong can spin it to say that he is a hard worker, cares for the down trodden, always raising money for worthy causes, etc. So, he can’t be that bad if he becomes PM. But all that did not happen and all that Mama and Papa could muster against the dynastic accusations were just lame denials. Its too late now. Anything he does along the lines I have mentioned above will be viewed with scepticism and cynicism by the public.

My 2 cent's worth.
When the mom who is neither elected nor has a portfolio is entitled to shoot her cb mouth, what high standards are you talking about? At least gecko knew when to show up in a chiongsam, look pretty and keep quiet. The greatest affront to the state is when you are contrarian even with regard to personal etiquette. I thought she is now changed
but still not up to the mark,

LHL should have advised her to wear some executive dress code to take with her.

But it is other way around
LHL goes behind her as she dresses like a brothel dress code
