A teenage girl has died after she was electrocuted while trying to charge her phone when she was taking a bath.

Madison Coe, 14, was in the tub in her father's home in Lovington, New Mexico, when the accident happened on Sunday morning.

The 14-year-old's family said she 'either plugged her phone in or simply grabbed her phone that was already plugged in' while sat in the bath, electrocuting herself, KCBD reports.

Donna O'Guinn, Madison's heartbroken grandmother, spoke to the station about the 14-year-old.

'I call her my shining star,' O'Guinn said. 'She was very smart. Very good student in school. She just loved life.'

'She was just sweet to everybody and everybody loved her.'

The grieving grandmother then explained how there was a 'burn mark' on Madison's hand from where she grabbed the phone, before adding she hopes it can be a lesson to others in future.

'This is such a tragedy that doesn’t need to happen to anyone else,' she told KCBD.

A Texas teen died Sunday morning while using her cellphone in a bathtub, according to reports.

Madison Coe, 14, was electrocuted taking a bath at her father’s home in Lovington, New Mexico, news station KCBD reported.

Relatives told KCBD that the accident was caused either when she plugged in her phone while in the bathtub or grabbed the phone as it was being charged.

The 14-year-old, who was from Lubbock, Texas, had recently graduated from eighth grade at Terra Vista Middle School.

“It is with heavy hearts that Frenship Independent School District mourns the loss of Madison Coe. We wish to share our heartfelt sympathy with her family and friends as we carry the burden of this tragedy together,” district officials said in a statement.

Friends created a GoFundMe page Sunday to raise money for her funeral.

“Our hearts go out to their family during this difficult time,” the GoFundMe campaign said.

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Family and friends are mourning the loss of a 14-year-old girl who died after she was electrocuted in a bathtub.

"It is with heavy hearts that Frenship ISD mourns the loss of Madison Coe," school officials told CBS affiliate WAFB-TV. "We wish to share our heartfelt sympathy with her family and friends as we carry the burden of this tragedy together."

Authorities say Coe, who lived in Lubbock, Texas, died early Sunday morning at her father's house in Lovington, New Mexico. It is believed that some sort of involvement with her cellphone, which was plugged into a bathroom wall outlet, led to her electrocution.

"There was a burn mark on her hand," Coe's grandmother, Donna O'Guinn, said. "The hand that would have grabbed the phone. That was just very obvious that that's what had happened."

The eighth-grader had just graduated from Terra Vista middle School and had plans to attend high school in Houston. Coe was a basketball player and first chair with her tuba in the band at school. Her family was in the process of moving.

"This is such a tragedy that doesn't need to happen to anyone else," O'Guinn said. "We want something good to come out of this as awareness of not using your cellphone in the bathroom as it is plugged in and charging."

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at King's Ridge Church of Christ in Lubbock.

No they don't. Physics students are always taught that water is a poor conductor of electricity. Huge mistake because water is never pure thus resulting in many tragedies.
