A 49-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (19 July) for allegedly shooting metal pellets at two cars in Woodlands earlier this month.

Tan Joo Soon Samuel was arrested in the vicinity of Woodlands Circle. He was brought back to his flat on the fifth floor at Blk 764A, Woodlands Avenue 6, around 3.30pm for a reconstruction of the incident. Clad in a green t-shirt and beige bermudas, the suspect kept his head bowed during the re-enactment.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the suspect allegedly used a catapult to shoot projectiles, believed to be metal pellets, from the window of his flat at two cars, shattering the windshield and frames on 1 July around 7am.

Two packets of ball bearings, a bottle of plastic pellets, a packet of slingshot bands, a catapult, and a toy tank which is able to shoot projectiles were seized by the police.

A neighbour who has lived next door to Tan for more than 10 years said that she has spoken to the suspect on many occasions. Calling him a “nice person”, the neighbour, who did not wish to be identified, said Tan is living with his wife and 10-year-old daughter. Tan has been unemployed for six years and is always at home, the neighbour added.

“I was sleeping on the day of the incident and didn’t see anything. I only knew about it after my husband told me and I went down to observe. I didn’t expect it to be him,” the neighbour said.

The suspect is being investigated for the offences of possession of an arm without a license, rash act, mischief and possession of a dangerous instrument, the police said in a statement.
