Seventy-nine people are feared dead after the blaze at Grenfell Tower destroyed 151 homes in the Kensington tower block, and the government has now ordered immediate testing of the Hotpoint fridge freezer which was involved.

According to the company one Hotpoint appliance is sold every 19 seconds in Britain - and on average two of every three UK homes have at least one Hotpoint appliance installed.

Whirlpool, owner of Hotpoint, issued a statement today.

“Words cannot express our sorrow at this terrible tragedy. We offer our most profound condolences to the victims, those who have lost love-ones, homes, and possessions, and to their friends and families.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved including the emergency services who risked their lives to extinguish the blaze and rescue those in the building.

“We are addressing this as a matter of utmost urgency and assisting the authorities in any way we can.

“We will provide additional updates as out investigations progress.”

Hotpoint FF175BP: What to do if you have the same fridge freezer

Words cannot express our sorrow at this terrible tragedy. We offer our most profound condolences to the victims, those who have lost love-ones, homes, and possessions, and to their friends and families.

What is the make and model of the fridge/freezer involved?

At this point in time the fire is believed to have been sparked by a Hotpoint fridge freezer (model number FF175BP).

During the period March 2006 to July 2009, a total of 64,000 units were manufactured by Indesit under the Hotpoint brand. They believe the actual number of appliances in use today will be lower due to normal product obsolescence, given the time period involved.

These models were discontinued in 2009, several years before Whirlpool acquired Indesit.

Customers can find the model and serial number of their appliances checking a sticker - usually located on a behind the salad container. Or look for the model data label below on your appliance.

Should people with the FF175BP make and model return it to store?

While customers haven’t been told to return them to store yet, those who believe they may have a Hotpoint freezer model number FF175BP or FF175BG should call the Hotpoint freephone hotline on 0800 316 3826 or visit hotpointservice.co.uk/fridgefreezer.

Do customers with Hotpoint products need to worry about a similar incident?

A Hotpoint spokesperson said the company is working with the authorities to obtain access to the appliance so they can assist with the ongoing investigation.

Under these circumstances they’re unable to speculate on further details at this time.

How often should people replace their Hotpoint products?

On it’s website, Hotpoint said it wanted to be able to provide products to customer which last for a lengthier period of time than five years.

Piero Pracchi, Marketing Director for Hotpoint, wrote: “Offering our customers a 10-year Parts Guarantee is reflection of Hotpoint’s pledge to support consumers past the point of sale. We want our customers to know we are with them every step of the way.”

Greg Clark, Secretary of State for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said: “The safety of consumers is paramount. The device is being subject to immediate and rigorous testing to establish the cause of the fire.

"I have made clear to the company that I will expect them to replace any item without delay if it is established that there is a risk in using them.”

Whirlpool tumble dryers

Back in February 2017, Whirlpool encountered a problem with another of its products - a tumble dryer. Customers were told not to use their faulty tumble dryers as part of safety advice. (http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/life/771123/whirlpool-faulty-tumble-dryers)

The faulty Hotpoint, Indent and Creda dryers caused a series of fires over the past year - one of the biggest ripped through an 18-storey high rise building in Shepherds Bush, leaving several families homeless.

Towards the end of last year, it was recommended that those with faulty machines contact Whirlpool to have their machine modified as quickly as possible.

The company insisted the faulty machines - a reported 5.3million - were safe to use so long as they were not left unattended.

But London Fire Brigade also campaigned for people to switch off their machines since the incidents started happening.

Charlie Pugsley, Head of Fire Investigation at London Fire Brigade, said: “We’re feeling a huge relief this morning.

“Where there’s any risk of potential fire from domestic appliances we should not be telling consumers they’re safe to use.”

Whirlpool: Hotpoint fridge owners should check units after London fire

by Ivana Kottasová @ivanakottasova June 23, 2017: 11:22 AM ET
Police: Grenfell Tower fire started in Hotpoint fridge
Police: Grenfell Tower fire started in Hotpoint fridge

A Hotpoint refrigerator has been identified as the source of last week's deadly Grenfell Tower fire in London, prompting Whirlpool to ask people who own the same model to contact the company.

The Metropolitan Police said Friday that the massive blaze originated with a Hotpoint fridge freezer manufactured by Whirlpool subsidiary Indesit.

Whirlpool (WHR) said in a statement that 64,000 Hotpoint units carrying the model numbers FF175BP and FF175BG had been manufactured between March 2006 and July 2009.

It said that owners of the model should contact its customer hotline and provide their details. Authorities said the model had never been recalled.

Whirlpool, which acquired Italy-based Indesit in 2014, pledged to work with authorities as they investigate the fire that left at least 79 people dead or presumed dead.

"We offer our most profound condolences to the victims, those who have lost loved-ones, homes, and possessions, and to their friends and families," Whirlpool said in a statement. "We are addressing this as a matter of utmost urgency."

The U.K. government has ordered an "immediate examination" of the unit by technical experts.

But it added that there was "no specific reason for consumers to switch off their fridge freezer pending further investigation."

Whirlpool said that fewer than 64,000 units were likely to still be in use because of normal obsolescence.

Shares in Whirlpool declined 2.5% in New York.

Related: Police considering manslaughter charges

The Metropolitan Police said they are considering manslaughter charges among the criminal offenses that may have been committed in relation to the fire. Police said they are focused on how the blaze started, how it spread and whether any person or organizations should be held responsible.

Speculation has focused on the role that cladding apparently used in a recent refurbishment of the tower may have played in the fire, which appeared to spread quickly up the exterior of the tower in the early hours of June 14.

The government said Thursday it was carrying out tests on 600 high-rise buildings across England that are covered in cladding, with at least 11 high-rise buildings so far identified as having combustible panels.

Chinese have lots of own good brands and are very reliable way exceeding Ang Moh especially US brands. In Europe they tested Chinese fridges together with Europeans by stripping band labels and consumers picked by features and qualities, the Chinese brands won. Lab tests also revealed that Chinese fridges and aircons are safer and more lasting than Ang Moh brands.

Ang Moh's days are history, from A to XYZ all lost.

LONDON: Residents of 800 tower block flats were being evacuated in London on Friday due to fire safety fears over their external cladding, after testing prompted by the deadly Grenfell Tower inferno.

The cladding on five of the Chalcots Estate towers is similar to the materials on Grenfell and have been widely blamed for the rapid spread of the massive blaze last week that is presumed to have killed 79 people.

The dramatic snap decision follows urgent testing of the towers' exteriors, which were installed by the same contractor as the Grenfell Tower. As a result, Chalcots residents were being sent to hotels across the city.

Camden flats: Hundreds of homes evacuated over fire risk fears

More than 700 flats in tower blocks on an estate in the Swiss Cottage area of north-west London have been evacuated because of fire safety concerns.
Camden Council said people in four towers on the Chalcots estate were moved for "urgent fire safety works".
The council added it was booking hotels but around 100 residents have spent the night on air beds in a leisure centre.
The estate's cladding is similar to Grenfell Tower in west London, where a fire is feared to have killed 79.
Chalcots was refurbished between 2006 and 2009 by the same firm, Rydon, that oversaw work at Grenfell Tower in 2015-16.
Camden Council said it will remove external thermal cladding from five tower blocks on the Chalcots estate.
It also said there were concerns about the insulation of gas pipes going into flats, and fire doors.
The council initially announced the evacuation of one tower block, Taplow, but later extended the move to all five tower blocks it had checked.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the council then announced that one of the five - Blashford - did not need to be evacuated, and that residents could return.
Blashford is smaller and has "several different design elements".

Media captionAir beds laid out in Swiss Cottage leisure centre
Residents of the estate attended a public meeting with council officials on Thursday evening.
The council's Labour leader, Georgia Gould, said the decision to evacuate the buildings was made at 18:30 BST on Friday.
She said the fire service "told us they could not guarantee our residents' safety in those blocks".
Some residents said the first they heard of the evacuation was on the news.
The council has secured 270 hotel rooms so far. Emergency accommodation was set up at Swiss Cottage leisure centre and at the Camden Centre in King's Cross.

Media captionCamden Council head Georgia Gould: 'Residents' safety comes first'
"We're encouraging all residents to stay with friends and family if they can, otherwise we'll provide accommodation," the council said.
"I know it's difficult, but Grenfell changes everything and I just don't believe we can take any risk with our residents' safety and I have to put them first," Ms Gould said.
She said the work is expected to take three to four weeks. Residents will be allowed in at the weekend to collect more possessions under escort from the fire brigade.
Prime Minister Theresa May tweeted: "My thoughts are with residents being evacuated in Camden while their homes are made safe tonight."
She said the government was "offering every support we can" to residents and officials working at the estate.

As the sun set on Swiss Cottage, there was frustration among residents of the Chalcots estate.
With tower blocks being evacuated, the streets were teeming with neighbours, children, and cameramen.
Camden Council employees wearing hi-viz vests stood outside the Taplow tower, speaking to residents.
Some of them only realised their homes were being evacuated after hearing news reports.
Most were not in the mood to talk. One woman shouted angrily at a TV cameraman: "Can you tell me what's going on?"
Confusion as evacuation begins
Speaking to the Press Association, resident Michelle Urquhart said: "It's a bit frightening.
"I don't know where we are going to go. I'm so angry because we had the meeting with the council last night and they tried to reassure us.
"We have been living in these flats for the last 10 years with this cladding."

Teacher Kim Price, who lives in Blashford tower with her 14-year-old son, said: "At 4pm today they said it would be okay and that all the checks were fine.
"And now all of a sudden the news is saying we should get out.
"We've had two letters in two days saying 'you're not safe' then 'you're safe'. I don't really know what to do."
Edward Strange, who lives in an 11th floor flat with his wife and young daughter, said the evacuation was a "complete overreaction".
He told the BBC there had been two previous fires in the block which were easily contained.
"I've got a young daughter, a wife and a cat, I've also got a job. They said it'd take four to six weeks. If the council says four to six weeks it'll take four to six months."

Ahmed Mohamed, 19, who lives in Taplow tower with his parents and two sisters, said they were alerted by a neighbour at 20:15 BST that they needed to leave.
"We only had five minutes to get our stuff," he said.
Hamza Usman, 21, who lives in Burnham, said: "I found out that we have to evacuate through BBC News.
"I called my mum and she said she had heard nothing either."

Samples from the tower blocks on the Chalcots estate were examined this week
Camden Council agreed a contract with Rydon Construction to refurbish the Chalcots estate in May 2006 at a cost of £66m.
The work took more than three and a half years. Five towers received new cladding, and 711 flats were modernised with new wiring, heating, kitchens and bathrooms.
Friday night's announcement came as the Metropolitan Police said the Grenfell Tower fire started in a fridge-freezer, and outside cladding and insulation failed safety tests.

London fire: Who are the victims?
A national operation to identify buildings with cladding similar to that used in Grenfell Tower has seen local authorities send samples for independent tests.
The Department for Communities and Local Government said 14 residential high-rise buildings in nine local authority areas have now been found with cladding that raises safety concerns.
A DCLG spokesman said: "Camden Council and the Fire and Rescue Service are rightly working together to implement their responsibilities under the Emergency Fire Safety Review that we sent them.
"The government, through London Resilience, is offering every assistance in getting this done as swiftly and safely as possible."
