I read thru some of the comments. Also noticed more than a fair few are Ang Mohs and Malaysians. They all seem lost on the issues of great concern. They are asking him to stay strong, wishing him the best, express their support, recognise the good work he has done, sympathise with the burden of governing he carries etc etc.?

What drives these people, how do they think, do they even have children who they wish can live in a fair and just society?

These comments are very different from the fawning style of plps and that of the grassroots lot.

Don't know bro, but I suspect they enjoy just making comments on FB and social media rather than understand issues. Similar to fuckwarezone but with decent English.

It however creates a false sense of support for the leaders.

New citizens? Or plain well wishers?

eh.. wait NUS fine you $3000 for your dog comment

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/chinese-scholar-sun-xu-s-scholarship-terminated.html

Chinese MOE scholar Sun Xu has been fined $3,000 and required to perform three months of community service by the National University of Singapore (NUS) for calling Singaporeans "dogs" on his microblog.

The NUS on Monday also revoked the engineering student's scholarship benefits for his final semester.

An NUS spokesperson said: “Mr Sun’s undergraduate scholarship benefits have been terminated for the final semester as his behaviour was unbecoming of a scholarship holder. Hence, he is required to pay back about $8,200 for the first tranche of this semester’s scholarship benefits, which had been disbursed to him."

I would gladly ask any one of those posting to name at least 5 departments that report to PMO or name 5 Ministers and their portfolios - without looking at their phones or computers.

The state of education on basic concepts of government and its constituent parts is grossly ignorant (as we pride ourselves as a First World country). There lies the deplorable state of the nation and its citizenry - reduced to trolling and facebook squabbles. As a tiny island with a limited/small number of citizens (in comparison to other developed nations) given access to the best primary, secondary and tertiary education in the universe (as is often proclaimed by these PLPs), it is truly a sad state of affairs. And this is not about whether we have a good government so we should tiam tiam. Its about being a population that is also aware of what it means to have a democratically elected government.

There is a sense of despondency and hopelessness amongst a group of people who see this for what it signifies and how damaging it is - hypothetically if indeed there are even more serious allegations of abuse of authority and power and the sacred monetary corruption what happens then - who will the country turn to to step up and do the right thing? What have the mandarins in the civil service been doing when they were being directed from above by someone who has no direct authority over them as an unofficial member of government? Has there been pushback and resistance? What happened to those who were bold enough to say no? Were there any so bold to say no if at all?

This incident is so troubling on so many levels that it is obvious from the social media platforms that very few seem to appreciate the significance.

This spat has truly shown how there is almost zero accountability as those empowered to watch over as they will as a matter of instinct and self-preservation protect their masters. There is not one person in Cabinet who seems remotely capable or willing of doing so.

The more this drags on the more it reflects that this country just does not realise how well and truly fucked we are.

That is the pappies intent..to keep its populace under control by not letting them know the law and the constitution. An ignorant populace is the best weapon for the pappie

I would have wholeheartedly agreed in the pre-internet days but all has changed (in terms of access to basic info) because it is easily available online now - if these zombies just spent a little time looking online and reading about the basic foundations of their societal structure it would perhaps awaken some semblance of a responsible citizenry (in the context of knowing what your government is and does should be your responsibility because you owe it to your family and kids that they are protected).

Instead, they are glued to Korean serials and pokemon and picking fights on the roads when they are not given way (and also bitching about the "floodgates" of ATs, kabayans and APNNs).

Its online and easily within reach (with bitesize info on each):

http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/aol/sear...ef-b95b8987728e" Status:inforce Depth:0;rec=0

WIth wikipedia there is even less of an excuse to plead ignorance (but hard to claim ignorance when they do not even see the value of such matters) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Singapore

http://www.pmo.gov.sg/about-us

For eg, how many here knew about the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO)and Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech)?

If a tourists asked a random "educated" singkie to describe the "type of government" we have I bet so many will struggle to answer coherently in accurate terms. And the same idiots are very proud of NUS and NTU being the "toppest" universities in the world.
