I do not see USA as the greatest nation in the world because of wealth - but from the point of artistic creativity. In the 20th Century, which naton created cartoon (the animated artform fot the modern times? Where did Mickey mouse and Donald Duck come from? Which other nation has the equal of Walt Disney? Whose imaginations and worls have brought joy to so many?
Take away the wealth of America? I don't know how that can be done, but lets just say we strip every mother fucker in this word of their VISA and American Express Card, the whole planet will come to a standstill!

But even Singapore and Malaysia has better standards of living than the Imperial Kingdom.

The Ah Tiongs who own property in Oz, Canada, and drive exotic cars in Singapore and UK, how "communist" are they? Legally, I am still employed and working in Singapore. don't know how long more. Business has been slow, very slow for quite some time. Don't know how long more we can sustain. Was just at MOM's office to collect my renewed E-Pass. Lots of South-Asian employees there too. Presume they are in the IT line or financial services. See continued activity in the region. Sense of vibrancy in KL, Jakarta, Bangkok, Manila, HCM City, even Yangon and Cambodia, but no such vibes in Singapore. Saturated? No more land it the main reason. No where to grow.

Yeah. Eventually I have to return to the Great White North. Not so optimistic for professional jobs there, might just settle for a job delivering pizza. As long a it pays the bills and keep me occupied. Might join a church and get involved in some Christian activities too.Just keeping options open.

There are cultural reps the world over, just happens that USA is the main market and where promotions are tops of the world. The best Brit musicians (and many others) make their home is L.A. Why? The Korean rapper Psy wasn't a biggie until the US market (Youtube) higjhtlihgtted his sets.
Events of WW2 and after has set the current economic status and it was USA that led the way. Japan, Korea, and now China rose along the way - because of USA market. Till now, international LCs are written in US dollars, I have no yet seen one in Yuan or Renminbi. Maybe someday, but not yet now.
Industrialalization alll takes place at different time at different regions, The US and Britain had theirs earlier and so faved those polutive problems and solved them (to varying degrees), it is now China's time. The difference is that socially individual freedons were/are allowed in the Western democravies whereas China is still dictatorial. How long can they sustain this model? That's left to be seen.
There are many things going for China now, nut because of its social controls. the individual human will not find the freedom to feel comfortable in the long run living there. S/he will not be able to fulfill his/her potential to the fullest. This will be the setback and downfall facing PRC society. Money they can earn. But their spirits/souls will always be yearning to leave.
