It's has been a popular route for nearly 20 years. With the savings and gratuity after 6 years, they head to OZ, get their degree, become engineers and some stay there for good. It's the best funding model. Even the Poly girls are following the same route. Both RSAF and RSN are 2 popular places.
The irony is that they are morevmarketable as the degree is from a first world country.

they get a 50k sign on bonus dont they?and working for SAF is relatively low cost.if they manage their expenses well and live a relatively non descrip life they can easily leave the army when they are 26,27 with 100k or more in their bank and figure out what they want to do next.not many sinkies under 30 with 100k in their pockets i can tell u that.lots of young sinkies still making less than 2 or 2.5k in their dead end jobs with nothing in their bank accounts.in this day and age its more important to have capital and equity to invest with and seek returns or buy real estate,then it is to have qualifications and a job.

To be fair, when the child was being conceived, the parents did not know the future would be so bleak. They did not know that the PAP would let in 2 million FTs to steal jobs from sinkies. This kid and the parents did not do their proper research. Aeronautical engineering is a growth industry and a big employer in singapore. In theory, they should have been plenty of jobs for sinkies. Unfortunately, the biggest employer is a GLC, ST Aerospace. And ST Aerospace has a nasty habit of hiring cheap pinoys and Indian mechanics to work on the planes. MRO and cargo conversion is 2 areas that ST Aero is doing very well in and they are very busy. Business is really booming there. ST has a track record of importing cheap overseas workers to work for them, and inflate their resume to make it seem they are qualified to service the planes they have contracted for. In some cases, the english level of some of this imported workers is only 25% of what is required. Imagine all the manuals and instructions are in english and these fuckers can't read it. This has been going for a long time. The prostitute press will not report on it. But it came to light because ST Aerospace has 2 subsidiaries in the US and were caught doing the same thing. A News 8 investigation found that hundreds of aircraft mechanics have been brought into the United States to work at aircraft repair facilities.
Insiders say the companies that are importing the mechanics are so eager to save money, they’re overstating their qualifications. The result may be a threat to safety, abetted by lax enforcement of immigration law.
At daybreak any morning at San Antonio Aerospace, hundreds of workers amble through the gates for the day shift. They repair big jets like Airbuses, Boeing 757s and MD-11s. But, despite the fact that it's a huge facility in the middle of the San Antonio International Airport, a large number of the mechanics are only temporary workers from foreign countries.
News 8 found they’re from Mexico, the Philippines and Chile, among other places. They have been brought specifically to the United States to work for San Antonio Aerospace (SAA). News 8 followed a special bus San Antonio Aerospace, used to pick up foreign workers every morning. Workers riding on the bus were from the Philippines. The workers, who wouldn’t say how much money they make, are part of a stream of imported mechanics brought to this country at cut-rate wages, according to several sources familiar with the business.
Jada Williams used to work for one of the contracting companies, Aircraft Workers Worldwide (AWW), based in Daphne, Alabama. AWW supplied workers for two facilities, Mobile Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in Mobile, Alabama and San Antonio Aerospace, which are both controlled by ST Aerospace. San Antonio Aerospace is a division of ST Aerospace, the largest aircraft repair company in world.
"They’ve employed over 200 since I left,” said Williams, who said she was unfairly fired by the contractor last fall. "And I know we had over a hundred when I was in there, just in Mobile.”
She said in San Antonio, AWW supplied 600 workers. The workers stay in the United States and come from various countries because of the different kinds of visas available in those places.
San Antonio Aerospace uses several contracting companies to supply it with workers. It can be a high-profit business for the contractors. They can make $3 to $12 an hour for every worker hired by SAA, contractors say.
The drive for profits is so big, Williams and other insiders said, that the contractors often falsify the qualifications of the imports.
"We had two,” she said. “One of them was a female. She was about 16. It was a brother and a sister. One guy was a grocery bagger, one was a security guard in Puerto Rico. Their ages were between 18 and 22.”
Their ages are important because it takes years of experience or schooling to learn how to repair a big jet, experience they couldn’t have had.
"There had been padded resumes at SAA before,” said an administrator at another contractor. “That’s why another contract house was kicked out (of SAA).”
One former SAA mechanic, who spent years learning his trade before being laid off, said foreign workers got their training on the job from the Americans they worked with.
"The more experienced mechanics, we would get paired up with either one or two of these guys,” he says. “And they would watch us for a month or so. And that’s how they would get their training.”
Williams is suing her former boss, Daniel Harding, for unlawful termination and racial discrimination. She has a computer full of company documents that were acquired accidentally when AWW got new computers for its office and gave her an old one. Spreadsheets, resumes and payrolls revealed many company practices, from interviews, to trips to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City for visas, charts marked the progress of Mexican workers to the United States. Documents also showed workers were charged $3,500 each by AWW to get into the United States.
Williams also has an e-mail trail from AWW president Harding to Moh Loong Loh, the President of San Antonio Aerospace. He described one candidate as having “ 25 percent English skills.”
Workers need English to communicate with their supervisors and to read repair manuals, so this is a key safety issue. American SAA workers said many imports cannot speak English at all.
In another e-mail, Harding described a group of imported workers from Mexico, just like a commodity.
“I hope to be able to bring increments no larger than ten at a time,” he wrote to Loh.
While this was happening, SAA former wokers said they got laid off.
“I feel like we are being betrayed in our own country,” said one who was terminated. “And I feel it is not right.”
“These big layoffs of 20 to 30 people would go out,” said the contract administrator. “The very next Monday, 30 or 40 [imports] would be coming in.”
Williams said in Mobile the numbers were even bigger. She said she picked up a group of 60 people from Puerto Rico at Mobile Regional Airport last February. Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, its residents are U.S citizens. For the contractors, this is a bonus because they can pay the Puerto Ricans low wages without having to deal with foreign immigration requirements.
When the FAA came to inspect San Antonio Aerospace, the company got a one-hour warning, said a former employee.
“And a lot of guys who were not able to read English, they would hide those guys or send them home for the evening," the former employee said.
News 8 submitted written questions to both SAA in San Antonio and MAE in Mobile. The questions asked how many foreign workers they employ and what they are paid. The response from each said “we are an equal opportunity employer.” Another question was whether AWW is owned by ST Aerospace. The terse answer was no, “AWW is an independent contractor.”
AWW did not respond to questions. An attorney retained by the company and Daniel Hardin said “Mr. Hardin is a responsible businessman who has greatly benefitted his community and his country.”
In Dallas, former judge David Finn, now in private practice, told News 8 that all the companies involved may face serious questions.
“Federal prosecutors would probably look at making false statements, material false statements," he said. "That’s a federal offense, a felony ... Mail fraud, wire fraud, there are any number of statues on the books that would apply to a situation like that.”

The Loh Loong Moh mentioned in the article was a SAF scholar for the RSAF. He was at that time posted to the US to bring in these illegal workers to undercut the pricing for mechanics.

Decades ago had a classmate who used his GCE 0 results to join the RSAF to as an aircraft mechanic.
Back then he was working on A4 Skyhawks. Eventually he was made redundant when the RSAF wanted Poly grads. Rather than upgrading their old personnel they just discarded the old. With such an attitude Sporeans shouldn't be surprised by the PAP's attitude towards "lesser mortals".
This is why I'll never understand why so many Sporeans keep supporting the PAP

Now let me tell you about a true story and the way that the PAP used to do things. I also had a class mate, did not have very good O and A levels. So poor, that he could not even get into a Pre-U college, so University is out for him. But he signed on with the RSAF in their AETI programme, set up in those days to train O and A level holders to be airframe mechanics, or aero engine techs, etc. He upgraded his A level scores in Physics and Maths while working for RSAF thru private A level courses, and at that time, the RSAF had a promote from within program. this program allowed him to apply as a pilot, and he got approved for it. Eventually, he became a A-4 pilot and is still flying today commercially. Can you imagine the RSAF today allow anyone to fly without perfect educational scores and graduating from a uni?
This is what singapore used to be. You could be a nobody, but if you improved yourself, you have a better then fair chance to be a somebody. And if you had the qualifications eg bachelor degree, and Masters, well you were set for life. Today, there is very much less chance, even if you have all the qualifications including uni degree from NUS. U can be very well qualified, but when you have the burden of fighting with imported FTs with fake qualifications allowed into the country to steal your jobs at a fraction of the price, plus the burden of reservist duties which these FTs don't have, then what are all your qualifications good for ?

Now let me tell you about a true story and the way that the PAP used to do things. I also had a class mate, did not have very good O and A levels. So poor, that he could not even get into a Pre-U college, so University is out for him. But he signed on with the RSAF in their AETI programme, set up in those days to train O and A level holders to be airframe mechanics, or aero engine techs, etc. He upgraded his A level scores in Physics and Maths while working for RSAF thru private A level courses, and at that time, the RSAF had a promote from within program. this program allowed him to apply as a pilot, and he got approved for it. Eventually, he became a A-4 pilot and is still flying today commercially. Can you imagine the RSAF today allow anyone to fly without perfect educational scores and graduating from a uni?
This is what singapore used to be. You could be a nobody, but if you improved yourself, you have a better then fair chance to be a somebody. And if you had the qualifications eg bachelor degree, and Masters, well you were set for life. Today, there is very much less chance, even if you have all the qualifications including uni degree from NUS. U can be very well qualified, but when you have the burden of fighting with imported FTs with fake qualifications allowed into the country to steal your jobs at a fraction of the price, plus the burden of reservist duties which these FTs don't have, then what are all your qualifications good for ?

To be fair u shouldn't blame the education system,or the government.many of the current generation,the gen y,z and millennials which I admit I'm a part of.even though they are highly edumacated,diplomatic,degreeish,most of them are losers,underachievers, basement dwellers,soft,guniang,strawberrish,Starbucks latte,YouTube anime generation.even though some of them may have ambition,but they lack capacity for hard work,take adversity,staying power and go getter spirit.so remain dwelling in their basement.want equality,save the world but only thru social media and that old guy that ran for Democrat.
That's why this loser settled for a $6 an hour job,study is easy,just sit on ur ass for hours and memorise textbooks in the comfort of Starbucks,but working is hard.who don't want to study?I don't mind if the state pay me 40k a year to be Starbucks scholars.would u rather be washing dishes in a 100 degrees kitchen or studying at Starbucks?

Because in ur era grandpa everyone was a nobody(singapore was a true communist country back then,all men were equal until some jackass came along and fuck it all up),of course they had to look at all the lumps of shit and see any of them could shine like a diamond after a bit of polishing a bit and then promote that guy.look at all the useles sinkies uncle and aunties and ah peks and ah mas on the streets now in their late 40s,50s,60s,70s. working their peasant and coolie jobs,earning just enough money to sustain their useless lump of a body,buy their favourite cigarettes,drink their favourite beer,queue up at the SG pools and horseracing everyday,picking their cardboard,voting for PAP......goddam if u ever see a more useless race in ur entire life.......if anyone of them could read a book or pass O level,A level it would be like striking jackpot.

Siao. How long have you been out of the job market? I could get $9 as a partimer at a factory even during school days. Now the wages are like 5-7. Working hard for FT wage is the new game now.
