Donald Trump Will Exit Paris Climate Change Agreement

trump4-640x480.png

President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, according to a report from Axios reporter Jonathan Swan citing two sources with knowledge of the decision.

The news was confirmed by several mainstream media outlets.

On Twitter, Trump indicated that an announcement was coming soon.

“I will be announcing my decision on the Paris Accord over the next few days,” he wrote. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The decision wreaks havoc on former President Barack Obama’s legacy as president, despite pleas from world leaders for the United States to show leadership on climate change and remain in the agreement

Trump’s decision fulfills a key campaign promise to supporters of his run for president, widely supported by Republican members of congress who felt that the treaty unfairly jeopardized the American economy.

Opponents of the climate deal were concerned after White House economic advisor Gary Cohn told reporters that the president was “evolving on the issue” during his trip overseas.

His daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner reportedly channelled support for the deal behind the scenes at the White House, encouraging climate change activists that Trump might change his mind. Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the former Exxon CEO, also supported remaining in the treaty.

On May 9th, Obama defended his climate change legacy, calling the agreement “the one that will define the contours of this century more dramatically perhaps than any other.” In October 2016, Obama described the deal as “the best possible shot to save the one planet we’ve got.”

New York and Washington elites agreed, downplaying the future of coal as an energy source and urging more federal subsidies for wind and solar investments.

Trump’s EPA Secretary Scott Pruitt and White House senior advisor Stephen K. Bannon urged the president to keep his campaign promise to kill the agreement and put American energy and job growth first.

I dont think any one would be surprised. To him, material wealth, getting ahead, to be in front etc are more important. However it means that none in his cabinet or his advisors have any power or remit over their portfolios.

as expected, potus does the right thing. if you have read the paris agreement you would have pulled out too. any multi-lateral agreement involving too many cuntries with much of the onus and liability on richer cuntries is a recipe for cheating, abuse and disaster. moreover, the u.s. will have to surrender much of her sovereignty to allow this new global community to interfere with her economy and domestic matters. this kind of seemingly benigh, well-intentioned yet unfathomable world gov must be challenged and resisted. take a step back, understand the repercussions and still contribute to a cleaner environment without this fancy overly-ambitious multi-national pipedream. since majority of cuntries and govs cannot be trusted it's better to work bi-lateral deals with selected cuntries and results will be more measurable. the u.s. is already taking the lead investing in clean-air energy and transportation r&d and doing her part recycling in all states and going eco-friendly in all cities. there's no need to be part of this stinking agreement. other polluting nations should be part of it as they lack the discipline.

this trump is crazy, what direction is he going?he thinks this is his boardroom reality tv show?

Climate change is the biggest con job ever. I'm extremely happy that Trump has shown the fortitude and the political will to expose the lie.

Those who criticize the decision should reserve judgement till they actually understand what the Paris accord contains in the first place.

It just seems like he's saying no to everything and all his allies, and seems confused what his overall strategy is.no wonder his casinos failed three times.

That is the problem and nobody reads and laps up what the mainstream media tells them. The Paris accord is just a declaration of intention, that's all. It is not a mandate and there are no punishment if a country cannot meet their target.

Looks like the backlash is not only outside of the US. CEOs of iconic giants react. The Mayor of Pittsburgh has also responded for using naming of the city.

How do people know that global warming is a hoax?

People who live in Miami are seeing the sea encroaching on their properties. The polar ice caps are melting. There have been extremes in global weather patterns with droughts & rains.

I remember when people treated the sea as dumping grounds, throwing rubbish into it. As well as fishing without any thoughts of the long term consequences. Today we know that the seas are very polluted. Fish stocks are being depleted with predictions that some species of fish will soon become extinct.

the paris accord is political grandstanding on an international scale, and it does nothing to change behaviors and policies of individual states and companies within those states. china and india polluters will continue to pollute and signee cuntries can't do a thing about it. u.s., major contributor to pollutants as she's a humungous economy and consumer of energy, will continue to pollute but at least behavior and policies at the state, county, city, company and consumer levels are changing.....for the better to keep air and environment clean. need no stinking political grandstanding to keep in line. paris accord is just that. worthless agreement that cannot be enforced by collective govs. ultimately it rests with citizens and residents.

It is not as if that US citizens are taking this down. Many US mayors and governors have pledged to continue their green movement anyway and since the Paris agreement is on a voluntary basis, it does not really matter Trump withdraw out of the agreement. I believe this is what makes US great. Individuals exercising their freedom without the govt prodding them.

small government, tiny bureaucracy, little legislation, minimum regulation - these are what responsible conservative citizens wish for. unlike the bloated useless bureaucracy that will be created by other cuntries as a result of the paris accord - a tax and spend monster-in-making that will grow with time and become an un-dismantable institution of big gov. and the markets response well to less gov. stocks up today at all-time highs.

The US has to wait 3 years before they can withdraw from the Paris Agreement. I wonder if Trumps will still be president:confused:
