Kirsten is another person to watch closely. She started an NGO and got a naive couple to run it on a shoestring budget, they fly to Geneva, KL to make presentations, lobby etc, she then turns up and submits articles to publications she freelances but not disclosing that it's her NGO and they created the event and the story. Never. But In the late 90s, there were rumours that's where he could be posted to after a big mess up in SID. To clean-up that entity.
There has been a long standing bad blood between SID and ISD. Both were set up by the Police but the former as is the practice in many countries is either in Defence or Foreign Affairs to hide budget, operations and personnel with cover. SID went to MINDEF but instead of MINDEF providing cover it has taken over by SAF personnel. SID struggles to conduct covert operational work using traditional tradecraft and have gone into research and technicals. Singaporeans have been conditioned to be compliant and cautious. Even talking to an Ang Mo they struggle so humint is very weak. They do their part for the allies thru non-humint support. Malaysians have got the better of us and PRC caught another one - SPH journalist.

Most, imo, aren't streetwise enough to survive overseas. Their military training doesn't prepare them for such work.

If S'pore is Israel, we would have been decimated decades ago. We can afford a 'look-good only' Intel agency simply because we don't face real threats like Israel.
