Rolls-Royces smelled that Airbus & Boeing are both fucked. They rushed to China & beg to join 1-belt-1-road, jumping ship or jumping plane?

C919 sold over 500 planes even before 1st flight test, really hot cakes! So how can Rolls Royce tahan that?
Now Rolls Royce proposed to have JOINT jet engine development program with PRC! And they are Not the only foreigner rushing to make such offers! Huat or not?

Boeing sent a notice to employees at its commercial jet factories Friday warning of layoffs in May.

Workers at the company's Washington state factories were informed by their union that Boeing had issued a federally-required notice that "involuntary layoffs were scheduled for May."

A Boeing spokesman confirmed the 60-day notice, but declined to say precisely when it would initiate the layoffs.

Related: Boeing moves ahead with job cuts as 1,800 take buyouts

Boeing (BA) has been cutting staff to reduce costs since early 2016, primarily through buyouts and the attrition of executives, managers and engineering staff. The notices are the first official signal from the company that it will lay off some of the factory workers who assemble its jets.

A person familiar with the notices said this latest round of cuts in May would affect fewer than 500 staff.

The Machinists union in Seattle, which represents thousands of Boeing employees, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After years of record buying, the pace of orders for Boeing's twin-aisle jets, including its 777 and 787 Dreamliners, has slowed significantly. Boeing is cutting back current-generation 777 production, its most profitable large jet, by nearly 60% from its peak.

Related: Boeing's Iran deal won't prevent production cut

Boeing is adjusting its employment to account for that lost revenue and is under pressure to offer better prices to airlines while promising Wall Street improved profit margins.

As of last month, Boeing had 148,000 workers. About half its employees work in its commercial aircraft unit, where the buyout offers were made. The company had already cut the jetliner unit's head count by 9% in the past year.

More than 1,800 union members will soon leave Boeing under a buyout plan offered last month, the first step in a continuing company job-cutting effort that’s expected to include layoffs later this year.

The Machinists union said 1,500 of its members applied for a buyout and were approved to leave the company.

The engineering union at Boeing said 305 of its members were approved and are expected to leave the company in April.

Machinists who accepted the buyout got one week of severance pay for each year of service up to a maximum of 26 weeks pay, plus six months of medical coverage at the same rate as when employed.

Engineering staff got the same severance pay package, but with only three months of medical coverage.

Boeing declined to release any figures, so the number of nonunion job cuts is unknown.

These cuts are just the beginning, with more to follow through the year.

Boeing slashed almost 7,400 jobs in the state last year.

Then in December, Boeing Vice Chairman Ray Conner and the new chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Kevin McAllister, issued a joint message to employees warning that “fewer sales opportunities and tough competition” would drive further cuts in 2017.

International Association of Machinists spokeswoman Connie Kelliher said Boeing has not indicated to the union what its end target is for job cuts this year.

“We don’t know if this round of buyouts fulfilled what they were looking for,” said Kelliher.

Last year, Boeing cut 2,100 Machinist jobs, all through attrition or voluntary buyouts, with no forced layoffs.

Bill Dugovich, a spokesman for the engineering union, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), said Boeing management last week told the union that if there are any further rounds of buyouts this year, they will be more limited, targeting very specific groups of employees.

In a January memo to Boeing’s engineering staff, John Hamilton, vice president of engineering at Commercial Airplanes, said there will be two additional rounds of buyouts and layoffs in engineering later this year.

Dugovich said Boeing has told union officials to expect the total number of job cuts in 2017 to be “in line with last year.”

Last year, SPEEA lost about 1,200 members, with 350 of those cuts being involuntary layoffs.

Boeing spokesman Paul Bergman said the February buyouts were a continuation of the process announced in December, with the company aiming to achieve the job cuts “through a combination of attrition, leaving open positions unfilled, voluntary layoff program and in some cases, involuntary layoffs.”

“Every few months, there’s going to be another group going through this,” he said.

Job cuts at Boeing keep on coming: The company told staff in a memo Monday that “hundreds of engineering employees” in Washington state and other company sites — but not in North Charleston, S.C. — will receive layoff notices Friday.

This follows a round of voluntary buyouts Boeing offered in January. That proposal was accepted by more than 300 engineering and technical staff and 1,500 members of the Machinists union.

All the engineering staff who accepted that buyout offer, as well as about 1,000 of the machinists who did so, will leave the company permanently on Friday.

In late March, Boeing issued an earlier round of 245 involuntary layoffs, including 62 engineering staff and 111 machinists, that will take effect in mid-May. Those also did not affect the Charleston site.

Since January 2016, Boeing has cut 1,332 engineering and technical jobs from its Washington workforce.

Despite the earlier rounds of voluntary reductions and layoffs, plus further cuts through natural attrition, “We need to reduce our employment level further,” wrote John Hamilton, vice president of engineering at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in Monday’s memo to the company’s engineers.

Hamilton also indicated that there are likely more layoffs coming later this year.

“We anticipate (Friday’s notices) will impact hundreds of engineering employees,” Hamilton wrote. “Additional reductions in engineering later this year will be driven by our business environment and the amount of voluntary attrition.”

Hamilton’s memo applies only to engineering staff.

Bill Dugovich, spokesman for the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA), said the union is trying to get further information from the company about the planned layoffs.

International Association of Machinists (IAM) spokeswoman Connie Kelliher said that union has not been informed by the company of any imminent layoffs.

Boeing cut almost 7,400 jobs in the state last year.

Then in December, Boeing Vice Chairman Ray Conner and the new chief executive of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Kevin McAllister, issued a joint message to employees warning that “fewer sales opportunities and tough competition” would drive further cuts in 2017.

That warning followed on the heels of a decision to cut 777 production in Everett from seven planes per month to five per month beginning in August.

That move was forced by a continuing slump in widebody-jet sales.

Boeing spokesman Doug Alder said Boeing South Carolina will not be hit by this round of layoffs.

That manufacturing complex in North Charleston has cut 110 jobs this year through attrition, all achieved without involuntary layoffs.

Boeing South Carolina’s current workforce of 7,455 is down 787 people from its peak last May.

Airbus is cutting 1,164 jobs from its 136,000 strong European workforce as the company’s corporate headquarter tightens its grip on the aircraft making business.

The aerospace and defence group is integrating its biggest operating subsidiary with the head office in a bid to cut costs and break down the fiefdoms that have plagued the group since it created from the merger of different European interests, reports Peggy Hollinger, Industry Editor.

Duplicate functions will be eliminated in research, communications, human resources and other group services as the Munich based corporate headquarters is moved to Toulouse in south-west France, where the Airbus aircraft unit is located. Some 325 positions will also move from Germany to Toulouse.

“This is a logical and necessary step in our integration journey, which started back in 2012″, said Tom Enders, chief executive of Airbus Group.
“It supports operations, group-wide collaboration and the digital transformation, which we are embarking on and which is a matter of utmost strategic priority for our entire company”, he said, adding:

With these leaner structures, we will improve performance and teamwork across Airbus. Therefore, the integration will ultimately strengthen Airbus in its ability to ensure future competitiveness and to remain a global leader in the aerospace industry.

Unions have already raised an outcry over the proposed job losses, which will mainly affect France and Germany.

The CFDT union on Monday warned the restructuring would see crucial research and development jobs moved from the Suresnes site outside Paris to Toulouse, with job losses in the process.

While the company had to prepare for a more competitive environment, the CFDT’s Airbus branch said on its blog that the restucturing of the research unit risked “sacrificing the short and medium term to only a long-term perspective”. It said big job cuts had also already been announced in the helicopter business in France.

Airbus said it was preparing the future by continuing to invest with 230 new jobs to focus on a digital transformation that would see greater exploitation of big data in both manufacturing and services.

The company said it expected to agree with unions on the job reduction plan by the middle of next year.

Nothing new. China had been making Rolls Royce jet engines for decades. The rolls Royce Spey was made in China for years.

You have to check your facts. The Spey engine technology transfer: if it was the intent, was never completed after the Tiananmen debacle. China as usual tried very hard to reverse engineer it without great success.

The British fucked the Western world by giving the Soviets the Rolls Royce engine which ultimately powered the Mig-15 Nato codenamed Fagot or jw some number which ultimately resulted in loss of American pilots' lives and the advanced power of Soviet military aviation.

History will repeat itself. Greed of capitalism which allowed China becoming the factory of the world and the resulting ascent into great national wealth, the natural progress of military power. It will now have the engine technology handed over on knees by Britain. The cycle will be complete.
