Stephen Hawking Warns We Have 100 Years to Leave Earth

Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has warned that humanity needs to become a multi-planetary species within the next century in order to avoid extinction.

Hawking made the prediction in a new documentary called Expedition New Earth, which is set to be released this summer as part of the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World science season.

Existential risks include climate change, overpopulation, epidemics and asteroid strikes, according to Hawking.

Efforts to create a human colony on Mars are already underway, with billionaire Elon Musk hoping to establish a settlement within the next few decades through his aerospace firm SpaceX. “I don’t have a doomsday prophecy,” Musk said in 2016, “but history suggests some doomsday event will happen.”

Hawking predicted last year that the chance of a species-ending event on Earth was a “near certainty” when all possibilities were taken into consideration.

“Although the chance of disaster to planet Earth in a given year may be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next 1,000 or 10,000 years,” Hawking told the Oxford University Union in November.

“By that time, we should have spread out into space and to other stars, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race.”

Despite the dire warning, Hawking did have some positive news for the assembled students. He pointed to how our fundamental understanding of the universe has advanced in his lifetime and said it is a “glorious time to be alive and doing research into theoretical physics.”

He added: “Our picture of the universe has changed a great deal in the last 50 years and I am happy if I have made a small contribution. The fact that we humans, who are ourselves mere fundamental particles of nature, have been able to come this close to understanding the laws that govern us and the universe is certainly a triumph.”

There is however no warranty that by migrating to (if possible & available) another planet, we could dodge asteroid rain at all. We might get even more and stronger asteroid rains in the new alien planet, it is unknown! We at least know earth now, that Geological Archeology Research over long period found that this planet earth got a recorded asteroid shower in approx every 26 million years cycle, recorded by mass extinction of ancient lives. The fucking matter of face is man's dream migration journey out of planet earth (if possible) is itself much high risk than asteroid shower! You are traveling yourself inside an artificially made asteroid / comet that could crash or go astray much worse than MH370!

Earth may be in great danger as the sun's path through the galaxy sends comet flying towards our planet, scientists have warned.

Researchers have identified a 26 million-year cycle of meteor impacts that coincides with the timing of mass extinctions over the past 260 million years.

The doomsday events are linked to the motion of the sun and its family of planets through the dense mid-plane of the Milky Way.

Gravitational disturbance of the Oort Cloud - a shell of icy objects on the outer edge of the solar system - is believed to lead to periodic showers of comets pouring through the inner region where the Earth resides.

The last of these events is said to have occurred about 11 million years ago, roughly the same time as the Middle Miocene mass extinction.

'That would agree with our position near the galactic mid-plane, where perturbations from dark matter etc. would be expected.'
WHAT IS DARK MATTER?

Dark matter surrounds galaxies across the universe, and is invisible because it does not reflect light.

It cannot be seen directly with telescopes, but astronomers know it to be out there because of the gravitational effects it has on the matter we can see.

The European Space Agency says: 'Shine a torch in a completely dark room, and you will see only what the torch illuminates.

'That does not mean that the room around you does not exist.

'Similarly we know dark matter exists but have never observed it directly.'

Scientists are fairly sure it exists and is crucial to the universe, but they do not know what it looks like or where to find it.

Dark matter is the mysterious invisible substance that surrounds galaxies and can only be detected from its gravitational effects.

It is believed to account for more than 80 per cent of all the matter in the universe.

Professor Rampino, from New York University, and colleague Professor Ken Caldeira, from the Carnegie Institution, carried out an analysis of meteor impacts and extinctions using newly available data providing more accurate age estimates.

They found that six mass extinctions linkedwith the timing of heightened periods of impact cratering on Earth.

One of the impacts studied was caused by the large comet or asteroid that struck the Earth 65 million years ago off the Yucatan coast of Mexico and is said to have wiped out the dinosaurs.

Five of the six largest impact craters coincided with mass extinction events, said the scientists writing in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

'The correlation between the formation of these impacts and extinction events over the past 260 million years is striking and suggests a cause-and-effect relationship,' said Prof Rampino.

'This cosmic cycle of death and destruction has without a doubt affected the history of life on our planet.'

Asteroid or comet shower is not the nearest threat, the nearest threat is as near as within ourselves = global overpopulation & over-consumption of planet earth's resources.

We failed to control our own numbers, we will exhaust all of planet earth's resources, it is already fore-casted that oil & gas will be finished by our own consumption within the next 48 years. Humans will need to colonise another planet within the next 100 years to survive climate change, asteroid strikes and overpopulation, according to renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking. In a documentary, Expedition New Earth – part of the BBC’s new science season Tomorrow’s World – Hawking and his former student Christophe Galfard will travel the world to find out how humans could survive in outer space.

In the series, Hawking claims that time is running out for the Earth and humanity will need to leave the planet for its survival. The shows aims to find Britain’s greatest invention, by asking the public to vote on the innovation which has been the most influential in their lives, ‘The Telegraph’ reported.

Last month, Hawking had warned that the aggressive instincts of humans, coupled with the fast pace of growth in technology may destroy us all by nuclear or biological war, adding that only a ‘world government’ may prevent this impending doom. Hawking had said that humans may lack the skills as a species to stay alive.

I have no issue for this juncture, because they are necessary to sort out a way to survive. My view is there is only a slim chance left - if we cut down the huge population level and consumption level of Global Resources, low enough to an extend, below the earth's natural ability to recover - and maintained below, not exceeding that, we can still sustain a surviving population of man on this planet - OUR VERY ORIGINAL & POSSIBLY ONLY planet. If we can not even make it right here, don't fucking dream too much of far-fetched remote safe heavens & Utopia Dreamland or rubbish talk-cock bluffs.

Be realistic. Live on Earth. Down to Earth, not imaginations in space. Can not fucking find a place like earth, which have all the millions of suitable conditions for our survival, why ruin this? Why take so remote and slim chance on places that not even a handful of suitable factors exist naturally? Already failed falling flat on our face to engineer planet earth environment, still dream so big about re-engineering space for a living space, and extend our survival at unknown places, fucking moronic and impractical fucking scientists!

Even to be ruled by apes will still be better than Total Extinction. Ruled by anything, you got a chance to throw a revolution back. Total extinction means ET from space can only come to find our fossil lying next to the dinosaurs fossils, that's all, and our corpses if buried deep underground where no oxygen and huge pressure and heat, will turned into fossil fuel, over billions of years past, but won't be branded Esso Mobil Shell BP SPC etc. May worth some values per barrel as well.

　　英国著名物理学家斯蒂芬·霍金过去曾多次发表自己对地球终将毁灭的看法，而在BBC将于6月份播出的纪录片《探索新地球》（Expedition New Earth）中，他再次发出警告称，人类在地球上生活的年限仅剩下100年。在未来的100年内，人类必须离开地球，到外太空寻找可能居住的星球，否则将面临灭亡的命运。

　　多年来霍金一直强调，地球上的生命很有可能由于某种灾难而灭绝，如全球变暖、小行星撞击、核战争、基因工程制造的病毒、人工智能带来的威胁等，并且这种风险还在不断增长。

　　在该纪录片中，霍金和他的团队探讨了人类是否能够以及如何能够移居到不同星球的问题，包括生物学、天文学、火箭技术和人类冬眠等。

　　不过，此前霍金曾对此表达过担忧 ，认为“由于至少在未来几百年里人类还不能实现在太空的自给自足，因此我们在这段时期内要非常地小心”。

　　霍金有关地球终将毁灭的预言已经不是第一次了。去年11月，霍金曾有过类似演讲，当时他预言的结果更为保守，认为在目前这个脆弱的地球上，人类最多只能再幸存1000年。

　　而早在2011年，他也曾经发出警告称，小行星撞击地球、核战争、超级病毒和全球变暖等因素带来的威胁将使地球在200年内毁灭，人类若想幸存必须移居至外星球。

　　2008年，霍金还曾号召人类移居月球或找到在火星上生存的办法。

　　霍金并不是唯一一个对人类生存面临的威胁发出警告的重要人物。近年来，亿万富翁伊隆·马斯克也曾经多次发出警告称，人工智能是人类目前最大的威胁，并于去年创办了一家名为 Neuralink的公司，研究大脑与计算机联接的人机融合技术。

　　马云最近也警告称，由于新技术与互联网的冲击，社会将面临几十年的“痛苦”。
