KUALA LUMPUR — Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, a Malaysian terrorist high on the police’s wanted list, has been slapped with a sanction by the United States Treasury, New Straits Times reported on Monday (April 10).

Wanndy is now placed under the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorist of the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), making him one of the most wanted terrorists by Washington.

The Specially Designated Global Terrorist lists individuals who have committed or pose a significant risk of committing acts of terrorism, or provided support to terror groups designated under OFAC Counter Terrorism Sanctions programmes.

The 26 year-old Wanndy is a key member of the Islamic State’s (IS) South-east Asian chapter and has been recruiting fighters and sourcing funds for the jihadist group.

He was also behind the attack on a nightspot in Selangor last June.

In response, a Facebook user going by the name Abu Hamzah Al-Fateh believed to be Wanndy, had ridiculed the sanction.

But the Selangor native said he would be extra cautious about his movements and communications.

Wanndy had coordinated attacks and provided material support to two IS fighters in Malaysia that included launching a grenade attack on the Movida nightclub in Puchong, Selangor. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
