SpiceJet flight diverted due to horrible stench wafting from bathroom

A smelly airplane bathroom can easily ruin any passenger’s flight, but it takes an especially awful stink to bring down a whole plane.

Passengers on a recent SpiceJet flight to Dehli, India, experienced just such a smell on Sunday morning, when their plane was diverted due to the unbearable odor emanating from the lavatory.

Just minutes after leaving from Bangalore, passengers started complaining about the strong smell wafting from the front of the aircraft, reports The Times of India. The smell eventually grew so strong that it “became impossible to bear” for both the plane’s crew and passengers, forcing the pilots to land in Hyderabad, a little over 500 miles into the 2000-plus mile journey.

BRITISH AIRWAYS GROUNDS FLIGHT FOR 4 HOURS AFTER FINDING A MOUSE ON BOARD

"SpiceJet B-737 operating [as] SG192 had to be diverted to Hyderabad due to very foul smell from forward lavatory coming into the cockpit,” a SpiceJet spokesperson explained in a statement. “After landing in Hyderabad, the lavatory and cockpit were thoroughly cleaned and ventilated before the aircraft was released for service."

Passengers were re-admitted once the aircraft was cleaned, and continued on to Dehli three hours after the emergency landing, AOL U.K. reports.

This isn't be the first time an unsanitary bathroom caused a huge stink on a commercial airliner. In 2015, a Dubai-bound British Airways flight was forced to circle back to Heathrow due to an unpleasant odor, which the captain of the flight blamed on “liquid fecal excrement,” according to one of the passengers.

SpiceJet, however, has yet to officially reveal the source of the smell that grounded Sunday’s flight.

A representative for SpiceJet was not immediately available for comment.

A packed passenger plane was forced to divert after an offensive smell emanating from the cabin toilets became unbearable for fliers.

The SpiceJet aircraft - which has a brand tagline of 'Red, Hot, Spicy' - was flying from Bangalore to Delhi in India when the odour began to spread, a few minutes into the flight.

The Boeing 737 jet carrying 200 passengers, including four infants, as well as cabin crew changed course after complaints over the pungent stench.

The pilots - who were also disturbed by the strong smell - decided to divert flight SG192 to the city of Hyderabad to investigate its cause.

The foul odour reportedly originated at the aircraft's front toilet, near the cockpit although the cause of the odour has not yet been revealed.

On arrival at Hyderabad the plane was cleaned and ventilated and returned to service around three hours later.

After the delay the passengers continued their journey onwards to Delhi.

A SpiceJet spokesman said: 'SpiceJet B-737 operating SG192 had to be diverted to Hyderabad due to very foul smell from forward lavatory coming into the cockpit.

This isn't the first time a flight has been aborted due to a bad smell.

In March 2015, MailOnline reported that a British Airways flight to Dubai was forced to return to London ‘because of a smelly poo in the toilet’.

Cabin crew were unable to fix the problem and the smell became unbearable for passengers seated nearby, forcing the plane to turn around near Brussels and land at Heathrow Airport.

At the time, a British Airways spokesperson told MailOnline Travel: 'We're very sorry for the discomfort to our customers.

'We provided them with hotel accommodation and rescheduled the flight to depart the next day.'

Explosion caused by cow farts literally blows the roof off barn in central Germany, one bovine treated for burns

The Associated Press | January 28, 2014 3:57 PM ET
More from The Associated Press
A German cow, not pictured, has been fingered as the culprit behind a barn explosion in Germany. Or at least its flatulence has.

BERLIN — A herd of dairy cows nearly lifted the roof off their barn in central Germany when methane released by the animals caused an explosion.

Police in Hesse state said in a statement that a static electric charge apparently triggered the detonation, and a spurt of flame, on Monday at a farm in Rasdorf. The roof was slightly damaged and one cow suffered light burns. No people were hurt.

Police say 90 cows are kept in the shed and it wasn’t clear why quantities of methane had built up. Bovine belching and flatulence releases large quantities of the gas.

Although the cow explosion might sound extreme, as the BBC points out, cows can produce up to 500 litres of methane a day, an amount which makes large bursts more believable.
