The North-South (Red) MRT Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT line went down in the evening today within 30 minutes of each other.
Photographs posted on Facebook by netizens showed stranded commuters making their way dangerously on the high ledge of the broken down LRT train. The LRT train had broken down just after leaving Teck Whye Station.
Commuters on the north south line experienced an additional 15 minutes and above when their rides were disrupted between Bishan and Sembawang towards Jurong East.
The cause of the fault has been blamed on a signalling fault on the aging north-south MRT line.
LRT train services resumed at around 9.30pm, SMRT said.
Train services on the North South Line returned to normal at about 10.33pm, according to an SMRT tweet.
