Tragic ferry that capsized killing hundreds of schoolchildren off South Korea is raised - three years after captain abandoned sinking ship without telling passengers to evacuate

Sewol ferry sank off South Korea in April 2014, claiming the lives of 304 people - mostly schoolchildren
The wreck is finally being heaved off the sea floor, with two giant barges lifting the 6,800-ton vessel
Nine bodies are yet to be recovered and family members are watching the operation from nearby ships
The crew, who survived, never issued an order to evacuate the stricken Sewol and the captain was later jailed

A ferry that capsized and sank off the coast of South Korea three years ago, killing hundreds of schoolchildren, has finally been raised from the sea floor.

More than 300 people - most of them children on a school trip - died after the Sewol ferry overturned and sank on April 16, 2014.

A catalogue of errors contributed to the disaster, including the ship being overloaded and the crew being too inexperienced.

Even though the vessel took around three hours to sink, those on board were never ordered to evacuate while the crew escaped to safety.

The 6,800-ton ferry was finally heaved to the surface of the water on Thursday as dozens of still-grieving families watched from a nearby barge.

After hours of tests and preparations, workers on two barges began the salvaging operation on Wednesday night, rolling up 66 cables connected to a frame of metal beams divers spent months putting beneath the ferry, which had been lying on its left side in about 40 metres of water.

By Thursday morning, the right side of Sewol rose above the surface - allowing workers to climb on it and further fasten the ferry to the barges, according to the South Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

Salvage crews will load the ferry onto a semi-submersible, heavy-lift vessel that will carry it to a mainland port.

The loading process, including emptying the ferry of water and fuel, is expected to take days.

The bodies of 295 passengers were recovered after the sinking, but nine are still missing.

I think the Koreans wasted the time to try to do themselves without success and finally paid the Chinese to do it.

The picture show the pair of semi-submersible with very ingenious cable systems and pulleys, that will ensure the most fragile wreckage to be recovered with least further damages in the process. The platform can be submerged deep in water and cables shift evenly with equal forces well distributed on surface of wreckage and transfer on to the platform and raise up to surface.

Koreans knew that the ousted president stopped the salvation during their regime.
See, the moment she is ousted, the ship can resurface immediately.

All they need to do is to pay Ah Tiongs mah, regardless which president, you give RMB$ the wreckage will float up like magic. KNN, Korea so near to Ah Tiong one day they can sail over already. More convenient than 7-eleven.

From my own experience of sailing boat, I can see from the photos now that this ferry is by design too unstable and unsafe, it has too little structure and weight under the waterline (blue color portion of hull), and TOO MUCH TOO HUGE TOO HIGH on the top (white painted portion 4 floors! ). The proportion between the blue and white part as so unreasonable. The under waterline portion is a narrow slim tiny structure, the white structure above water line is so huge so tall and over-sized. In any strong wind strong current rough sea conditions, it is going to flip to the side like it did. I will not get myself on sail on any ship made like that, unless I had no idea.

This design is too greedy and naive.

Now the wreckage is being towed to a safer part of sea 3km from where it was lifted up.

Above URL is the illustration of very advanced Chinese Salvage Technology used for the 1st time in the world.

Fucking Koreans failed their rescue salvage too badly, majority of passengers not rescued, their rescue helicopter crashed with 5 more killed. In the end Chinese salvaged the wreckage for them, and they still side with USA to punk with China in the THAAD missile saga. Useless Kim Chi bastards!

MGvX-fycwymx3006072.jpg

TnkE-fycwyph1365004.jpg

RiMa-fycxmks5098200.jpg
