Chitchat Busker Arrest - Abuse of power

Apparently he told them to speak in English as they were speaking to each other in Mandarin and after he showed them the licence. He was told to shut up and arrested.

If the passerby had not highlighted this in social media he would have been another digit.

Let's see what Shanmugan will do? I like him to explain the reasons behind the arrest and whether it is right.

I cannot recall any law which covers rudeness to public servants and I am not suggesting that the busker was rude.

The Policemen should know that they are in a public place and anything they do would be witnessed by the Public, and that includes video......

They should be at their best behaviour.

They should also use English if they are speaking in public although it would not be wrong to use any other language.

There is no need to use handcuffs as an arrest had not been made officially. Neither was there any resistance to any arrest.

In any event, there is no reasonable grounds to arrest this person, once it has been established that he holds a valid licence.

Yes, the cops over-reacted in this case and should be sent back for further training........

were the busker a Chinese instead of a shit skin i can bet less ppl would have supported him. Notice the one taking video and pictures of the poodles is a Chinese who helps non Chinese so willingly but not so if it's a Chinese.

Shanmugam is well known for commenting on every silly petty things so I want to see how he explains how officers of his Ministry have done in this instance.

How the hell were they trained to do something that even common sense will tell you not to. Until we we act on these officers this sort of nonsense will continue.

Thats exactly what they did. They thought they can eat, probably think that Buskers are losers. Imagine how many poor souls have been convicted wrongly in the past.

If I am calling the shots, I don't even need CCTVs. Overnight I'll stop these activities.

The scholars in the SPF can only put up papers. They need to think out of the box.

For me, I'll call up the headman and politely tell him he's due for CL if these activities take place in his lorong. That will eradicate these outdoor activities immediately. No such activity can take place so openly without sanction from the resident gang.
