Lee Wei Ling was right after all, the govt. does not care for you, and they have not done so for quite some time now.

This is brought forcibly home by the Oscar winning performance of our Minister Lim Swee Say. PM Lee was right, our Ministers are indeed talented. Talented actors, not talented politicians. Lim’s crying incident during the recent session in Parliament was so grotesque and such a sickening performance, that even for him, this must be a new low.

Lim was brought to tears while relating the story of how some PMETs, who were jobless had been found jobs. He brings up an example of a Ms B who was a 50yr old single parent, had a brain tumour, was raising 2 kids and a parent, and had been jobless for 10 months. He was brought to tears because the govt. helped this lady with her transportation cost because she could not afford it. That was all it was, just the cost of a monthly concession pass. Seriously? A pitiful $120 card that the govt gave this woman brought Lim to tears? He must have been balling his eyes non-stop when the govt. took pity and gave a very old and senile man $16,000 a month to be the absentee MP for Tanjong Pagar.

But I digress here. Missing from all this is the root cause for the retrenchment and joblessness among older PMETs. Since Lim is so into the details of such individual stories, perhaps he should also mention how they arrived at their situation. Perhaps he should start with examples of how so and so Mr. PMET lost his job because his company retrenched him for a cheaper FT from India. Perhaps he should mention how this other PMET came to seek help because he could not find a job having been discriminated against due to his age, reservist obligations, etc. The fact is, as Manpower Minister, Lim should be well and truly informed on how little protection is offered to the average Singapore worker. He is very aware that any Singapore worker can be fired without cause, can be replaced very easily with a foreign worker, has no unemployment benefits, has no recourse, etc. And yet this pathetic buffoon cries tears over a lousy $120 for a jobless PMET, not even remotely concerned that his govt. policies are the cause of many PMET job losses. Basically, he caused their job loss, then goes on TV to cry about how he gave them a few crumbs. Really, Mr. Lim? It’s better to stop their jobless by kicking out all the fake FT job stealers, then he wouldn’t have to cry anymore.

Since there are so many jobless sinkees,he should be correctly called the Minister for Unemployment.
Forget about his fake and plastic sobbing ,we all know that Zorro is a good actor.
IF he really care,he should donate 90% of his multimillion dollar annual salary to the Retrenchment Fund for
Jobless Sinkees.
IF he really care,he should declare in parliament that he guarantees that every Singapore Citizen who wants to work can and will have a
good job.
He's just lucky,in other countries, there will be protests in the streets and outside parliament for him to hara-kiri or the least resign for sleeping
on the job and for not doing anything tangible to help the jobless immediately.

Among all the industrialized countries in the world, singapore is the one that offers its workers the least amount of job protection from foreign workers. The much admired Swiss and Japs do a very good job of protecting their work force and seem to still be doing well despite their higher wage cost. The PAP is just bankrupt of ideas.

I have already shared that if you have time go prowl Linkedin. You will be surprised that how many fresh off the boat overseas "professionals" from senior to executive level came into Singapore the last 2-3 years. Those who worked in the B2B services sector will definitely noticed that many of the stakeholders have turned foreign (even at middle management level). Due to this change, the local service providers are increasingly being squeezed out by Indian offshore companies or those of "international" AKA Angmo firms. Even Lee Hsien Yang's wife (Lee Suet Fern) law firm also kenna squeezed out of corporate contracts by international firms. Can read here: http://www.theindependent.sg/law-ministry-rebuts-leehsienyangs-wife/

"In her lecture Mrs Lee, the managing partner of Morgan Lewis Stamford, questioned the outcome of internationalisation of the scheme and wondered if QFLP was good enough when the firms under the scheme hired “only about 100 out of thousands of Singapore-qualified lawyers”.

The friends I have in the private sector are very resilient. But everyone is getting increasingly frustrated at all these obstacles with no light at the end of the tunnel. PAP elites are now like living in ivory tower or choose not to care with them jerking up prices and all the wayang (cutting quota S-Passes and Foreign Workers in areas that really need the foreign labour. Then telling stories of some total losers CMI type that my circle would not even want to employ, thus blaming "Singaporeans" uncompetitive. And worst of all with Spring's consultants even generalising SMEs CMI too) to appease the brain dead 70%.

The mass import of foreign PMETs is definitely benefiting many of the iron-rice-bowls senior civil servants who owns huge assets in the rental property market.

But will it become like old Shanghai (known as Whore of the Orient), where the beneficiary of international business in this city is the foreigners in the international settlement and the thin layer local elites?
