Lee Wei Ling was right after all, the govt. does not care for you, and they have not done so for quite some time now.
This is brought forcibly home by the Oscar winning performance of our Minister Lim Swee Say. PM Lee was right, our Ministers are indeed talented. Talented actors, not talented politicians. Lim’s crying incident during the recent session in Parliament was so grotesque and such a sickening performance, that even for him, this must be a new low.
Lim was brought to tears while relating the story of how some PMETs, who were jobless had been found jobs. He brings up an example of a Ms B who was a 50yr old single parent, had a brain tumour, was raising 2 kids and a parent, and had been jobless for 10 months. He was brought to tears because the govt. helped this lady with her transportation cost because she could not afford it. That was all it was, just the cost of a monthly concession pass. Seriously? A pitiful $120 card that the govt gave this woman brought Lim to tears? He must have been balling his eyes non-stop when the govt. took pity and gave a very old and senile man $16,000 a month to be the absentee MP for Tanjong Pagar.
But I digress here. Missing from all this is the root cause for the retrenchment and joblessness among older PMETs. Since Lim is so into the details of such individual stories, perhaps he should also mention how they arrived at their situation. Perhaps he should start with examples of how so and so Mr. PMET lost his job because his company retrenched him for a cheaper FT from India. Perhaps he should mention how this other PMET came to seek help because he could not find a job having been discriminated against due to his age, reservist obligations, etc. The fact is, as Manpower Minister, Lim should be well and truly informed on how little protection is offered to the average Singapore worker. He is very aware that any Singapore worker can be fired without cause, can be replaced very easily with a foreign worker, has no unemployment benefits, has no recourse, etc. And yet this pathetic buffoon cries tears over a lousy $120 for a jobless PMET, not even remotely concerned that his govt. policies are the cause of many PMET job losses. Basically, he caused their job loss, then goes on TV to cry about how he gave them a few crumbs. Really, Mr. Lim? It’s better to stop their jobless by kicking out all the fake FT job stealers, then he wouldn’t have to cry anymore.
