If living on Mars is of the realm of sci-fi fantasy, one Nasa scientist has an idea, which could make it possible in a matter of years.

Speaking at the Planetary Science Vision 2050 Workshop at the Nasa headquarters in Washington, one scientist presented the extraordinary idea to put a magnetic shield around Mars to restore its atmosphere, which eventually could make it habitable.

In a talk, Nasa’s Planetary Science Division Director James Green set out how the organisation could be in a position to carry out daily science and exploration on Mars.

The workshop was aimed to discuss ambitious space projects that could be implemented or at least started by 2050. Speakers included a range of experts on space technology, which set out their vision for what planetary science may look like in the future.

Mr Green said that launching a “magnetic shield” to a stable orbit between Mars and the sun could shield the planet from high energy solar particles.

In the past Mars had a significant amount of water before the planet lost between 80 and 90 per cent of its atmosphere over its lifetime.

The shield would consist of a large dipole, which is a close electric circuit powerful enough to generate an artificial magnetic field, Popular Mechanics reports.

The shield would allow Mars to slowly restore its atmosphere.

Mr Green’s modelling of the shield found that the structure could enable Mars to build up half the atmospheric pressure of the earth in a matter of years.

The shield would protect the planet from solar winds and the greenhouse effect would start to heat the planet and eventually melt the ice under its poles.

"Perhaps one-seventh of the ancient ocean could return to Mars.

"The solar system is ours, let's take it. That of course includes Mars and for humans to be able to explore Mars, together, with us doing science, we need a better environment," he said.

If the theory seems possible, this could be one step closer towards transforming Mars into a habitable planet in the next 100 years.

So NASA has plans to fix the climate on another planet but cannot offer a solution to the so called global warming on mother earth?

If this is not evidence that "climate change" is nothing more than an industry that earns millions for the likes of Al Gore and his liberal lefty consters then I don't know what is.

Too many in the top echelons of NASA are clipping the ticket in the carbon credits food chain.

Thank goodness we now have a President who can see through the hypocrisy. He'll soon fix it.

There is no fix on planet earth except a drastic abrupt reduction of global population. Which all the existing political and scientific leaders have no balls to execute.

Fleeing earth is a desperate dream. Even if they could survive in Mars, Mars itself will NEVER SURVIVE from them! It will RUIN FASTER THAN EARTH! Because it is not only smaller than earth hence less durable / lasting against desperate exploitation. Because it needs to be drastically engineered to live on, as it is suitable originally. Because man are STUPID AND GREEDY AND COWARD.

Screw up in guaranteed.

Where there is naturally no air no oxygen, no ocean, no lake, no river, no forest, no LIVE, no FOOD, no suitable gravity, no atmospheric pressure, no suitable temperature, no OIL...

No magnetic field, to artificially recreate EVERYTHING and live there, drastic destruction will be rapidly RUIN Mars, even if there was successful results form such desperate silly greedy EXPLOITATION.

Now I understand them already. Man actually learned the truth that we are the PEST in this Universe, Consuming Destroying & Exhausting Away Planets and habitats ONE AFTER ANOTHER, Invasive and Greedy and Selfish and Irresponsible. So the other more capable and intelligent life forms had to do the NECESSARY ELIMINATION OF HUMANITY in order to SAVE THE UNIVERSE. Simple reason that I originally failed to realize. KNN!

Everyone will have their views about how space is to be used/exploited. However, the underlying question is one of engineering capability. Can we, the human race do it? The closest celestial body to our own planet, the Moon has already been reached. Mars is next. Affter that? There is such a vast expanse out there, we really do not have an idea of how to go about it. There are no laws, no government to make those laws, so it is up for grabs. As for the alien invasion and them conquering us, I believe its better we do unto them than vice versa. So for those who think that space exploration is a waste of money and effort (and resources), step aside. There are many more who wish to go out there. Just because it is there.

Man should be wiped out. Earth and universe will be free of pest, destruction, pollution, exhaustion of resources. Planets will not be consumed ruined and wasted.

Researchers at Harvard University have theorized that a baffling, unexplained phenomenon called ‘fast radio bursts’ may be used to power gigantic alien interstellar spaceships twice the size of earth.

Fast radio bursts are millisecond-long flashes of radio waves, recorded using enormous radio telescopes. Since their discovery in 2007, fewer than 20 have been detected. The bursts last only the briefest of moments, but they can generate as much energy as 500 million suns.

There is no generally accepted explanation for the mysterious astrophysical phenomena. One theory is that they are caused by the collision of very dense objects such as merging black holes or neutron stars.

However, a new study from scientists at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics proposes that the bursts might be coming from giant planet-sized transmitters in galaxies billions of light-years away.

"Fast radio bursts are exceedingly bright given their short duration and origin at great distances, and we haven't identified a possible natural source with any confidence," one of the researchers Avi Loeb explained. “An artificial origin is worth contemplating and checking.”

Scientists are fairly certain that fast radio bursts are coming from a distant galaxy, travelling billions of light years to reach our telescopes. The Harvard team examined the feasibility of creating a radio transmitter strong enough for detection across such vast distances.
Loeb and his colleague Manasvi Lingram found that if the transmitter were solar-powered, a device twice the size of Earth would be able to produce the bursts.

Their theory for why any form of life would go to the trouble of building such an enormous machine was that it could be used for powering ‘solar sails’ on a colossal spacecraft. Published in Astrophysics, the paper argues that such a craft could carry living passengers across interstellar or even intergalactic distances.

The researchers admit their theory is speculative, but say that fast radio bursts are so confounding to astronomers that any possible explanation is worth exploring.

Asked if he really believes that the radio bursts are caused by aliens, Loeb replied: "Science isn't a matter of belief, it's a matter of evidence. Deciding what’s likely ahead of time limits the possibilities. It's worth putting ideas out there and letting the data be the judge.”
