Those individuals are very intolerant.
In Canada and USA, there are hospitals founded by the Roman Catholics and the Jews.
However, I am unaware of any public hospitals founded by those individuals, who are immigrating to Canada, and/or coming in as refugees.

We have to deal with this in the context of a US withdrawing from this part of the world and an assertive China seeking to dominate the region and appropriate all of our industries. Does the current Lee and his team have the steel to deal with the new world that is unfolding?

U need to update your information and mindset. Compare Netanyahu's visit to Chiam Herzog's in 1986. At that time, there were many protests and demonstrations in Malaysia over this and they were pissed off at us. But this time, there is not even a formal diplomatic protest lodged by the malaysians or Indons. Why is this? The times have changed. Would it surprise you to know that officially, these 2 countries have to show an open hatred for Israel, but unofficially, they have been trading and buying weapons from them. Indonesia, for example, bought 30 Ex-Israeli Air Force Skyhawks some time back. I understand some of the instrument panel was still in Hebrew on those planes. Malaysia and Israel do almost $2 billion a year in trade. Intel has a big plant in israel that makes computer chips, and these chips are sold to Malaysian's Intel plant for assembly.

There has been already alot of commercial interactions with Israel, usually kept harsh harsh. But its a fact nontheless, so I think these 2 countries are more practical about our relations with Israel now.

Which is why a policy of neutrality is a perhaps the only foreign policy that the small and simple minds at the PAP can execute with some degree of success. I mean there is no rocket science to neutrality. Just don't show favourites to anyone.

We are so small and insignificant, do no delude yourself into thinking we can prevent or influence a collision between these 2. even worse, if we give the chinese the same access to our naval facilities that the US has, the rest of ASEAN will not talk to us and we will have new enemies there. Why? SImply because the Chinese will use our facilities to support and resupply their ships that are enforcing their hegemony over the south china seas. U know they will use our facilities to resupply the contested islands, and we will end up pissing off the other ASEAN countries that have claims. Once again, as I have said, neutrality is the best course of action. We just tell everyone to fuck off and not use our facilities. that way, no one side is shown any favours.

Hindsight can be a useful tool in comparing the past with the present. Back in the '50-60s, there seemed to be a certain confidence or sense of direction even though the times were turbulent. Now as we near 2020 (can you believe this? the year 2020 is coming soon), do we feel a similar confidence or sense of direction?

To be fair, if the current establishment is doing reasonably well, I will give it due credit e.g. in certain specific areas such as national security. But in other key areas, we are hobbling along. This is rather obvious in the flummoxed reactions from LHL during the recent BBC Hardtalk session. It may not be fair to compare him against the Old Man back in the day when he gave as good as received, but it is an apt description of the country's state through that lens.

I think one main reason why our leaders chose not to follow that route (neutrality) is simply because they want to feel important. Feel needed. Punch above their weight et cetera.

Yes, this is a legacy from old fart. Old fart always thought that he was meant for bigger and better things. he was one of first asian leaders to embrace the Chinese when they came out of communism. While other countries still viewed them with some distrust. And he was also one of the few leaders who did not criticize the Tiananmen massacre.
