The media organisation that did the most harm to their own is Rupert Murdoch and Fox. He controlled thinking and thought in the UK, US and OZ in a way no one expected it. He used to bring along his wife and kids into No. 10 thru a side entrance. Thats how powerful he was.
You should see the 4th estate in action where it works. As you probably know that the media was not conceived as the 4th estate but became one out of necessity. In many cases it held rogues, tyrants and corrupt public officials accountable. A an important ancillary is investigative journalism. Take South Africa as a recent example - its the media and Judiciary which have become the last bastion of hope for that the common man to stop politicians hijacking the country for good.
There are of course bad examples and in Singapore no will ever know the value of the 4th estate because they capitulated a long time ago.

I never understood the ang mor emphasis on 'freedom of the press' and fourth estate etc. In all ang mor democracies, separation of powers and checks and balances is important..and in the past media was one of the checks and balances, however there was minimal policing of the media..and the media don't have to answer to anyone...whereas politicians can still be booted out,...now the ang mor press is literally running amok and reporting lies and fake news...where is the accountability of the media? Now with this CNN crap...I support fair media....and fair reporting...
