SG's next Elected President Election will be in 2017.

LHL is afraid that the pap endorsed candidate will be decisively defeated at the next EP Election. Instead of tackling the root causes of the problem, he has decided to stoop low and amend the Constitution to deny courageous and independent minded Singaporeans to stand.

Singaporeans must defeat LHL at his own game and solidly support the alternative candidate who dares to challenge pap's bad policies and vote him in.

We must deny another yes-man like Tony Tan who is a sham.

We ought to start the ball rolling now and encourage courageous and independent Singaporeans who can qualify for the EP Election next year to seriously step up and stand against the pap endorsed candidate. We must not allow a pap selected man to be made EP.

Let us compile a Sammyboy List of EP candidates who are independent and strong enough to stand against the pap in 2017. If it is a straight contest, this candidate stands a more than 50-50 chance to win the Election.

The list starts with the following proposed candidates:

1. Tan Cheng Bock - doctor
2. Ngiam Tow Dong - PS
3. Liew Heng San - PS
4. David Lim - Chairman, Jurong International
5. Ho Kwon Ping - Chairman, Banyan Tree
6. Peter Lim - Owner - Valencia
7. Sim Wong Hoo - Creative Technology
8. Lim Siong Guan - PS
9. Liew Mun Hong - CEO, Capital Land
10. Tommy Koh

any other proposed names?

Bro, it will be Malay minority elections for the next EP. Even the Commission wants this not to be delayed.

It will be from the list below

1) Zainul Abidin - former Sr Minister of State
2) Abdullah Tarmugi - former Minister and Speaker
3) Halimah Yacob - speaker
4) Sidek Saniff - former Sr Minister of State
5) Ahmad Mattar - Minister

Bahren Saari, the banker however does not meet the criteria.

Except for Zainul, everyone else has an issue

Abdullah Tarmugi - half chinese married to a full chinese and Mendaki revolt took place 20 years ago because of him
Halimah Yacob - no gravitas
4) Sidek Saniff - his company fined over poor and dirty hostels for foreign workers.
5) Ahmad Mattar - too much personal issues

You may be right that it will be a minority candidate. But I am hoping it is not.

The names you gave are too pap. Do you know of any good independent Malay who may qualify?

If Parliament passes the proposed amendment without changes, then LKY and SR's chant of a meritocratic SG can be thrown into the wind. It shd be best person for the job regardless of race, gender or religion.

LHL is a 100% coward

The whole thing even for the Chinese is designed for PAP politicians or GLC linked company. No CEO of a company with $500m in stakeholder equity will stand. When you run such a company you will not for run for elections or bother campaigning. They make tougher decisons when they run the company as CEO. They will not waste their time making a decision that will be overturned by Parliament. They will also not lower their self esteem for an office that has been fixed.

As the company has $500m in equity, they also do not need the pay.

Look at all those who ran for the office in the past. None of them are from the private sector.
Tan Jee Say - former Civil Servants, last company he ran was liquidated
Tan Cheng Bock - PAP MP
Tan Kin Lian - NTUC Income, PAP member
Chua Kim Yeow - Former Acct- General
Nathan - Perm Sec

The govt and most people know that it was never meant for anyone from the private sector with no links to the Govt. The Commission Report and the White Paper comes to only one conclusion. The changes were also designed so that a former PAP or establishment figure that has shown an independetn streek is also not eligible. Tan Cheng Bock comes to mind.

Don't qualify. In terms of profession and respect across public, private sectors and within the community the person who comes to mind is Po'ad Mattar. He is a chartered accountant that helmed one of the big 4, sat for years on PSC and then Council for Presidential Advisors. He however does not qualify under the auto-track.

That Malay guy fronting propnex ? He qualify ?

The pap has narrowed the group to such a limit that those who stand are pro pap and will only serve to hinder and obstruct an opposition govt and render it difficult to function.

But TCB shows that Singapore still has singaporeans who will come in when SG is in dire straits. Those who come to my mind are Ngiam, Liew, David Lim and Lim Siong Guan. These are stalwats who have seen the best of the pap and know that this present pap just cant make it

I tot pap said next president cannot be a Chinese? This is the dishonourable son's anti-Chinese anti-China agenda.

nothing is confirmed until Parliament approves the White Paper.

It sounds so silly for the pap to stoop so low to change the Constitution. Hope this attempt will churn up some good candidates to want to challenge PAP's candidate.
