Dark Baldy Knight is the only capable one among the whole gin gang of clowns.

Indians are ceo's is major successful western corporations. You will be hard pressed to find any chinks working in these places. Only the ones that failed, such as yahoo and bkackberry, chinks are in charge.

If you are Chinese and you are good, you are likely to leave in your mid 30s to start your own business. There are those that are not keen on business and they do very well in academic, arts, public service etc. In fact even among the Caucasians it is also a trend that they manage and run their own businesses rather than work for big corporations. In a way it has opened the doors for Indians who are good to take over these spots.

Heaven please save Singapore. Without divine intervention the country is doomed.

Surprising comment from you, but I have to agree.

It is fortunate that my family does not depend on Singapore well-being. I am here only as long as it suits us

If you haven't guessed it by now, this is the start of the long drawn succession exercise. The Brothel press was asked to float the 6 candidates and note the commentary for each, void of anything significant in terms of attributes, style or personality. Possibly the worst write-up of potential leaders. The idea is to gauge public response not that the public has any say in the matter. It is also a signal to the candidates to start their own campaign of sorts. The first unofficial kick-off was in Jan when 4 of the 6 were asked to face an IPS panel where they are asked to give their answers to a series of questions. Ong Ye Kung won that round and Ng Chee Meng was rated last. Interestingly Tan Chuan Jin and Lawrence Wong were not on the list then.

Tan Chuan Jin during the 2 yearly CEC elections performed unexpectedly very well in Dec 2014. Lawrence Wong did not make the cut.

Both must have been included after the Heng's health scare. It is common knowledge that Lawrence Wong who was one time PPS to LHL is the PM's favoured candidate if Heng does not make the cut for Health reasons.

GCT was nominated by his peers - the second generation leaders over tea and snacks in the privacy of Tony Tan's House. LHL selection background was never revealed though Khaw as Chairman of PAP recently insisted the selection process has been the same thru-out and it will again be the same when the 4th generation leaders pick one of their own.

What to expect?

1) PAP has 6 to 7 years to test each of these candidates. It unlikely that the successor will be named prior to GE2020. The 2 hot portfolios to have under your belt for succession in terms of importance are Defence and Finance. Heng has one but not Defence. The rest do not have any though it looks like Lawrence may eventually take Finance and Heng moves to Defence.

2) The 2 persons to watch are Lawrence Wong and Ong Ke Yung as back-up for Heng and their next appointments will be telling. Notably both have been given "political" assignments in recently - LW to handle CSJ during GE2015 and OKY to handle minority presidents, both not related to their portfolios.

3) I think we can safely rule out Chan Chun Sing (NTUC is a known dead end job) Ng Chee Meng and Tan Chuan Jin.

4) Then again, Heng will be 60 years old by then and like Teo Chee Hean who was the unofficial designate eventually ruled out because of age Thats leaves LW and OKY.

I hope it is not OYK,
because it does not smell good.

Realistically, it does not make any difference which of the 6 takes over.

1. So far there is no discernible difference between them in terms of political ideology, personal experience/background, charisma and future vision for Singapore.

2. Whoever takes over will just be a figurehead as the apparatus will be run as a "consensus collective" leadership consisting of senior cabinet ministers and political elders.

However, this latest series of health scares does point to a rather sad state of affairs on succession planning. Singaporeans are left with 6 individuals whom by and large nobody has anything strongly for or against any of them other than the nagging feeling that they don't seem like "PM material". It is also an indication of how homogeneous and colorless they are.

The whole notion that the next leader has to be of a certain age, i.e. 50ish or below is bullshit.

If LHL is not up to the job then the person taking over should be the best one for the job, regardless of age. What's wrong if you become PM in your late 50s or early 60s ? Life expectancy is so high nowadays, the guy can serve until he is in his 70s.

This is something like wanting to carry on with the family legacy and creating a "petition" for him to carry on as long as he could. It is also to do with converting the role and ensuring that only their "candidate" could be eligible.

If one is so concerned with having a "minority" in-charge, why restricting the "Chinese to be PM? Do not forget our first Chief Minister was Jew! Nobody protested then, and he led us into the "self-government" role.

I wonder if anyone realised this phenomenon of self censorship when it comes to local politics. No one - an individual, a think tank, an opposition political party, a company, a university etc has ever attempted to do a full blown survey that meets survey and statistical standards to find out who Singaporeans prefer both for the role of PM and President.

There is no law against conducting it and any result will clearly show how Singaporeans truly think. The closest attempt was when NMP Siew Kum Hong attempted a field survey at Bukit Batok over the demise of then PAP MP and if By Elections will be held. He however was shooed away by the Police.

Workers Party has 6 MPs in Parliament. It will be good if they commission a survey bringing independent experts. I am sure if they appeal for donations to fund the survey people will step forward. Nobody trust the Brothel press and that includes MediaCorp. Nobody trusts any of the Government agencies because we know they operate in fear of their career.

Bro,

Apparently there's this straw poll indicating about 80% of the folks who voted preferred Tartman as PM.

During one of Viswa's panel discussion just before Bt Batok By_elections, near the end of the session, a lady in the audience spoke very eloquently and convincingly why Tharman is respected across the spectrum and people are voting for Tharman and not exactly Murali. You could see people nodding their heads in agreement. Viswa responded by saying that she should have spoken at the very start and there was no need to have any discussion thereafter and everyone laughed and agreed by nodding their heads. I have never seen anyone endorsed in such a manner even thought it was a small audience.

It does look like he too like the father will remain in the Istana pulling the strings until the day he keels over. I know that Heng has not relations to any of the establishment figures or the Lee Clan. Lawrence is a mystery. Ong Ye Kung via his father has roots in the PAP prior to independence. The Kwa clan carried a lot of influence and Teo Chee Hean is the last remaining one.
