2 major cluster - Aljunied and Bedok. The rest cannot be linked. Unlike SARs, identification of index case is a major struggle. Invoking the Act is being considered. The Act allows the Govt to issue quarantine orders.

Both Thailand and Singapore are the only countries in this part of the World that have been impacted to this extent. No vaccines in sight.

Residents of Aljunied and Bedok should be forbidden to travel outside their areas. Put up barb wires, road blocks to seal those areas up.

Put the volunteer soldiers, made up of foreigners, to work. They will man the cordon.

the host of zika virus is not human beings but mosquitos though, unless theres a way to lockdown the atmosphere,a slight breeze can easiky carry the infection 20km from east to west.

Today hit 215 Zika cases that have been detected, but there could already be thousands infected that are not detected yet. Singapore is an extremely overpopulated island, that virus should spread very quickly.

Zika cases hit 215 on Sat, as analysis shows Asian lineage of virus in S'pore

Updated: 9:19 PM, September 3, 2016

SINGAPORE — An analysis of the Zika virus found in two patients from the Aljunied Cresent/ Sims Drive cluster showed that the virus belongs to the Asian lineage and likely evolved from the strain that was already circulating in South-east Asia, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The virus from these patients was not imported from South America, the MOH added of the finding concluded by the National Public Health Laboratory and A*STAR’s Bioinformatics Institute after completing genetic sequencing of the virus.

In MOH's latest update, 26 new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection in Singapore have been confirmed as of 12pm on Saturday (Sept 3), bringing the total number of cases to 215.

As have said in a similar post, it's a matter of time before it reaches thousands.......
Pop of 5.2~5.5 million.

Can one imagine if pop is 6.9 to 10M?.
It's going to be a big epidemic......

What's the hoo-ha about this Zika thing? It has been circulating in Southeast Asia ever since Old Fart became the Emperor. Some of us might even had contracted it before but it's probably reported under dengue infection because it's really not a very popular virus to test for back then.

The PAP is too honest for its own good. You can bet there are thousands more Zika cases in Malaysia that goes unreported.

tis target can b ezily achieved ...

especially wif current ft living conditions ...

In fact, it is not only with current ft living conditions....with the importation of FTs, it's already present in that population. Just that at time, the medical test or examinations does not include Zika, same goes for the chiku sickness and even TBs.

That what you get with the blind mass importation........

Won't make much sense from an epidemiological perspective as the disease is not spread directly person to person unlike SARS.

My grapevine is not too clued in on this but i guess for anyone who has observed how our political leaders operate, they must be plagued with indecision right now and no clue how to proceed.

They should take a leaf from our northern neighbour . All Aljunied and Bedok households should be sprayed with mosquito repellent.

I do agree with you. I think it was the cabinet that asked for the position paper in view of the past issues with MOH. The MOH Medical Director (powerful post) was quietly removed after the SGH Hep contamination that led to 8 deaths and the post I understand is still vacant, covered by a DD. Ng's wife was spared. So it looks like a collective approach to avoid all around embarrassment.

There are other issues that is probably driving this - unknown nature of this beast, unable to determine why Thailand and Singapore, if this variety has been all along present in the pop for decades but due to mild nature not identified and therefore not tested. As a side issue, the PAP MP who was 7 mths pregnant and given the all clearance on the basis that it only affects those in the 1st trimester has resulted in a backlash within their World as cheap politics. ( I was surprised they had a moral compass in the first place).

Also understand that Expat Lobby group thru their respective business councils have asked for guidance and regular advisory - quote "we don't want to read it from the papers"

Their single biggest fear is a baby born or aborted with abnormalities because of this. It will be a political disaster because the way they handled this compared for example Hong Kong. HK released the info after the preliminary test and before the final conclusive test which later turned out to be negative. It was poor handing. They need to get back in front. So far none of growing foetus have shown an signs which is good news.

By the way, the company that is developing 60 Sims Drive has has its Chairman of the Board, former Perm Sec (Moses Lee), current Chair of Alexandra Health Cluster (Jennie Chua) and former Speaker (Abdullah Tarmugi) and the owners are Malaysians Quek Leng Chan and family. I may explain why the in the first few days they did not want reveal the name of the construction site when it is the first known cluster and all cases traced to it. It is beginning to look like the food poisoning case in Goodwood Park where no updates of value were provided, no results of testing of workers provided, while case before and after were given all the details necessary to form a view.

The number of "Malaysians" controlling our well-being is alarming. They are in our Cabinet, civil service, MPs, Minister of States, and private sectors. Unlike the first generation of ministers who were few in numbers but nevertheless hard working "Singaporeans", the current ones are mainly "appointed" or drawn in involvement without undergoing the and knowing of our "past" efforts.

I have no respect for them and realise that "as long as my own family" is "okay", I do not really care for the future of Singapore as it does not "belong" anymore to us. Sad but realistically true!
