He was asked to go because MOT only found out about the trains been sent back from the press. Because of the sensitive nature of the roles in defence and security held in the past they are offered roles in GLC to ensure that state secrets are kept intact. They do not want a repeat of the Genting case where the ex-Head of Special Branch and Ex-IGP Malaysia and Singapore's ex-ISD head ended working for the same company and a foreign boss.
In times of needs, these people (with their background and connection) will come in handy.
