SINGAPORE: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife made a stopover here on Thursday (Aug 25) to pay their respects to the late former Singapore President S R Nathan.

They were received by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong when they arrived at Parliament House and also met with Mrs Nathan.



In his condolence letter to Mr Lee, Mr Abe said Mr Nathan contributed to unifying his people and to the stability and prosperity of Singapore.

"He was also fluent in Japanese and a friend of Japan. He was our state guest in 2009, and has played a significant role for furthering the friendship of Japan and Singapore," Mr Abe said.

Mr Abe was flying back home from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after he made a surprise appearance at the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games.

History is often a one sided story told from the perspective of the Victors.

To the Japanes their fathers, sons and brothers died in defense of the nation and emperor. They were all honorable patriots.

The PAP and Lee Con You have learned this lesson very well from the Japs. Never apologize. Never apologize for losing billions of taxpayers rainy day funds through a fucked up relative running Stomachsick. Never apologize for working with the enemy during the war. Never apologize for spending over $300 million on YOG and not spending anything on our own atheletes. etc.

Any leader who can speak fluent Japanese is definitely a friend of Japan.
