Here is the historical reason -

Hainanese were late in the migration game in Singapore and ended up having to work for the British as servants (cooks, maids, etc). Because of that they were despised by the Hokkien and Teochew (as Angmo dogs).

In fact Tan Kah Kee despised Hainanese people until he started to support CCP (he actually moved back to China) and found out that the Hainanese angmo slaves have been sending money home, providing education for their relatives (Hainanese people are known to be quite pro-education due to the legacy of many famous exiled scholars on the island). Many of these educated people went all the way to Beijing to work as scientists or scholars under CCP government. Anyway this is digression.

Because of being an "angmo dog", the Hainanese started to interact alot with Peranakan (who seen themselves as British Subjects, speak English, join civil service, also seen as Angmo doggie by other pure blooded Chinese). Since many Hainanese are already working as cooks in government offices or army camps, they started to learn cooking nonya cuisine for these high ranking Peranakan government officials. They also learnt to cook curries (as many Eurasians and Indians are also in civil service).

In sinkie land, 90% of all eateries, food stalls, restaurants and food courts are owned, run, managed, served or manned by foreigners from China, India, Vietcong land and pinoy land. If you want to boycott eateries run by PRC employees, what about those manned by the other foreigners?

It looks like native sinkies have to cook their own foods to eat at home if they wish to boycott those eateries served or manned by foreigners. Sinkie land see liao, lah.

I support 100% any eatery that is run by locals.

Hua Yu Wee restaurant at 462 East Coast Road, serves old school seafood & zi-char has been around since the early 70's and is run by a Hainanese family together with their relatives.

The old two storey bungalow which stands on 30,000 sq ft of freehold land is owned by the family and so free parking is available.

They had been there longer than 33 years, next to Chartered Bank, then later Standard Chartered Bank...the persons tending the Chicken rice was Hainanese, the chief server & some servers were Hainanese & the cashier's too, if you have there 33 years. The chief server I think have retired, didn't see that person for some time, so had the cashier & many of the Hainanese working there & people think this is a Hainanese joint...... this may account for the influx of PRC, which they had employed in numbers & may have contributed to this recent outbreak.

There was another Haines Chicken Rice coffee shop at the extreme left of Pow Sing, where Citibank is today, their chicken rice was quite good too, cheaper than POW SING. Pow Sing has another shop not far from the current, they took over, I think the KFC shop.

If you have been eating there for 33 years or more, like me...in memory, have you heard of incident like this? closed by the health authorities?? no right?.....there is something wrong with NEA standards & inspections....we are seeing too many of these "food poisoning" cases.

The original pow sing was a stall at the kopitiam where Citibank is today. In the 90s the boss bought over the shop space between the chinese medicine hall and Standard Chartered branch to set up the white chicken/nonya food restaurant. Many years the stall and the restaurant operated side-by-side serving white and roasted chicken. That was until 2008 when the corner shop space was taken over by Citibank. Then the owner took over KFC and opened the second restaurant.

The staff have always been canto-speaking malaysians. The owner is hokkien but he can speak Hainanese. Probably a halfling .....

"passing" the basic food hygiene course, enter the kitchen and dispense dirty food. The sad thing is that NEA only steps in when a customer complains or when food poisoning comes to light. NEA could do better by randomly conducting hygiene checks on all food outlets and revoking the licences of food outlets that violate food hygiene.

NEA have no time to check, they are very busy checking the hawker's centres roof in the Oppositions held wards, plus, checking for mosquitoes, check for illegal night markets.....random check, " kar ki lang' kitchens..." you got eyes no see tarzan"??

If all these food stalls , restaurants are confirmed 100% oppositions owned..they will check all the orifices of the servers, the cooks, the...whatever, every hour of the day....

When you have a labour minister who tells workers to be cheaper faster betterer in the face of rising overheads, are you going to bother so much about frivolities like gloves, hairnets, masks and staff hygiene training?
