By now you should know about the above. If you have a US issued payment card, you can switch your country of origin in iTunes and download the app and same for Android. So far one clown in Singapore got fired, one dead body in the US and one dead body in the UK found. People are crossing roads blindly even highways, entering offices and a matter of time someone is going to be killed.

Singaporeans who fell for Hello Kitty will certainly go for this and in a big. Business will ask or pay to be included to bring in new customers.

It will be a matter of time before the game is banned, halted or the makers asked to make changes.

"Please use caution as I do not believe the game was intended to be used while driving."

ARMED MUGGERS USE POKÉMON GO TO FIND VICTIMS
Police warn that muggers can "add a beacon to a Pokéstop to lure more players."
Law enforcement agencies around the globe are reminding citizens to obey trespassing laws and follow common sense when playing Pokémon Go.
The new crazy-popular mobile game has lead to some frightening results in recent days, such as the location of a dead body and robberies of players in Missouri.

On Monday, San Francisco Police Department Captain Raj Vaswani warned in one online posting for players to “obey traffic laws, please.”

“Do not run into trees, meters, and things that are attached to the sidewalk; they hurt,” he said. “Do not drive or ride your bike / skateboard / hipster techie device while interacting with the app. Know where your kids are going when playing with the app, set limits on where they can go, so they don’t keep going trying to get that Pokemon.”

Meanwhile, in Bangor, Maine, the police wrote on Facebook:

For those who have asked me if there are any Pokemon in our lobby (or gym..hah), I have no idea.
Please use caution as I do not believe the game was intended to be used while driving. This could be a problem.
We do not have an Emergency Phone Charging Station in the lobby and No, you cannot turn yourself in on a warrant in exchange for recharging your phone.

In Virginia, the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook on Monday that it has been “experiencing a rise in Trespassing and Suspicious Activity events recently due to the new Pokemon Go app.”

The agency continued:

Deputies have located numerous individuals on business, church, and government properties at all hours of the night, when these places are closed to the public. The participants are using their phones to find the location of “Pokemons” in order to play the game. These actions are considered trespassing and put the individual and Deputies in a position of unnecessary risk. Please refrain from going onto property without proper permission or after appropriate times. Parents should encourage their children to avoid these actions for their own safety and enjoy the game responsibly.

Similarly, cops in Western Australia noted: “‘I was collecting Pokemon’ is not a legal defence [sic] against a charge of trespass, so be sure that you have permission to enter an area or building.”

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, authorities wrote: “Never use your phone while driving; don’t step into the road without looking; watch out for others—particularly if they’ve got their noses buried in their phones; be aware of what’s happening around you; and respect other people and their property.”

However there is an unexpected or yet unrealised monetisation angle which is radical by many measures (although it is not novel in its inception):

Pokémon Go is doing what few apps can – driving real-world traffic

"If you were looking for a rare Pokémon and encountered the sign above, what would you do? Because I’d pay up to get whatever pocket monster was lurking within.

Ingress and Nintendo don’t seem to have made paid in-game locations a part of Pokémon Go’s business model right now (for that, look to in-app purchases), but the ability the app has to drive real-world foot traffic to locations is undeniable. The example above was posted to NeoGAF forums, but others abound, and some businesses are going the other way and using their Poké-presence to encourage folks to come inside.

Currently, PokéStops and Pokémon Gyms (key real-world locations and landmarks that Pokémon Go players visit to acquire collectibles and do battle) are pulled from the location database of Niantic’s original location-based AR game, Ingress. Those locations are generated through user submissions, which are open to anyone in the user community, and which are vetted by Niantic before being added to the public database.

Ingress used sponsored in-game locations to drive revenue, too. Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ teamed up with Niantic for a big branding campaign, for instance, which included uses its ATMs as “portals” within Ingress, as well as the introduction of a branded in-game object. Other sponsors for Ingress locations include Zipcar, AXA and Circle K, to name a few.

In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Niantic Product Manager Brandon Badger explained how the company envisioned a branded location schema aimed at driving revenue from marketing in Ingress:

“I think that, we hope to end up with a model where, potentially there could be a cost-per-visit type model where large brands and small brands, as well, could sponsor different elements of the game, with the end of interacting with players and really tapping into that enthusiasm of players,” he told the publication in 2014.

Already, people are using the tools made available by Niantic and Nintendo in Pokémon Go to capitalize on the potential for real-world traffic. Forbes contributor Jason Evangelho details how smart business owners are using “Lures,” an in-game item that turns any existing PokéStop into virtual feeding frenzy for players looking to catch Pokémon.

But this requires there to already be a PokéStop nearby – so naturally, businesses are already looking to get Niantic to add ones to their locations.

Not only Niantic, but Nintendo, too has a history of using the popularity of its products with consumers to drive foot traffic. The Nintendo Zone service offered special downloadable virtual items to players when they connected to specific locations, and Nintendo worked with McDonald’s in Japan and Boingo in the U.S. to provide access to Nintendo’s content free to users. Chris Scullion on Twitter points out the logic of a similar McDonald’s partnership forming with Pokémon Go:

For businesses of all sizes, a game with this kind of engagement is definitely better than just dumping a wooden sandwich sign out on the sidewalk."

For some other insights into the knock-on phenomenon:

People are starting to make their restaurant choices based on Pokemon Go

But this is something to be aware about as well:

You Should Probably Check Your Pokémon Go Privacy Settings

Yep, retail stores, restaurants, etc will be pay to get pokestops nearby and launch lures. Already previously remote locations are seeing a high of activity and they were lucky to have a pokestop.

Just an alert. Google has found out that as you need to sign in thru Google, full access to Google has been given inadvertently to the app. The fix is being rushed out, so you might want to wait.

Also Google servers as well as their alert parameters have been strained so you will likely get multiple alerts for your email accounts.

false info. niantic has just announced today that only gmail id and password are used for access but full profile in google account not compromised. google also confirmed that.

google server farms are working fine. they have more than enough capacity (exabyte in fact) for one lousy app. lag on app has been negligible so far. it's the pokemon trainer account that faces lag. what cock are you talking about.

Sign in through iOS does prompt you to allow the app to access your gmail, calender and contacts. Still suspicious until they get around to changing it.

cannot sign in to app with apple id or email. can either sign in with google account or pokemon trainer account. if you have never used gmail on ios device, google will prompt you on ios device mail with security warning and message via backup email. only basic profile (id, email address) is exchanged between google and niantic, although you need same google password to access via google account. the main concern will be niantic abusing or not protecting the password as password entry is made via the app log on. the latest release or fix is to quell rumors and false flags about google giving away the farm (they don't stupidly give that away) - it's a placebo, although there are other patches on bugs (that cause crashes) and workarounds, such as signing in with google id, revoking token, 2nd attempt after a crash, and getting through to play without authentication and authorization.

Yes, the App server captures all that as they have been inadvertently given it. Google revealed this and the fix is currently being done. The only things not protected are password and credential management. Niantic, the app developer was formerly owned by Google and that probably led to this situation.

I have been playing Pokemon Go with my son the last two days. It is pretty fun. But I think the fad will die out eventually.

Agree on the fun part. I think this one has legs because besides collecting, there is the gaming part with others, and there is also the exercise part for those keen. I am sure they are going to expand from 151 to the full team of 720. Then there is also the business side where SMEs are prepared to have pokestops in their vicinity.

Anyway the fun is also watching how far this will go plus all the social and IT issues that are being played.
