1 week to go, before the window's shut

Manchester United manager Mourinho has a week
to finalise squad before transfer window shuts

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ews/man-utd-transfer-window-mourinho-11788720

Man Utd have completed the bulk of the business but there are still outstanding issues that need to be resolved.

Manchester United are set to play a waiting game as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
Manager Jose Mourinho and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward completed the bulk of their business before the start of the season.

But there is still interest in Southampton defender Jose Fonte while a number of fringe players are expected to leave before August 31.
United have spent £145m to bring Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly to Old Trafford.
Fonte would be Mourinho’s fifth summer signing but any deal will depend on Southampton softening their stance on the 32-year-old. It is understood United are willing to wait until deadline day in a bid to test their resolve.

MU%2024.8_zpsbz8gcefl.jpg

Mourinho is keen to add an experienced centre-back to his squad.

But having been impressed with Bailly and Daley Blind in the opening games of the season, coupled with the return of Chris Smalling, it is believed Fonte’s arrival is not deemed as crucial as it was earlier in the summer.
United have also been linked with 29-year-old Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, although the Italian would cost significantly more than Fonte, who is valued at £8m. The Portugal defender, who was part of their victorious Euro 2016 squad in France, has described the links as ‘flattering’.

It was reported on Tuesday that Arsenal have pulled out of the race because Arsene Wenger is convinced the former Benfica and Crystal Palace centre-half is destined for Old Trafford. His arrival would likely mean at least one more defender heading for the exit. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has joined Wolves in a season-long loan deal and Tyler Blackett has left permanently for Jaap Stam’s Reading.

Stoke have expressed an interest in Phil Jones, who has been left out of Mourinho’s match day squad for three successive games against Leicester, Bournemouth and Southampton.

There is also interest from Italy in right-back Matteo Darmian. Like Jones, the 26-year-old is yet to feature in a competitive game under Mourinho.
James Wilson has been sent on loan to Derby and United are also trying to find takers for Will Keane and Andreas Pereira.
They would like to secure a Premier League loan move for Pereira, or at least find the 20-year-old Brazilian a club in England, despite interest from Spain and Holland.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has told the players on the fringe of his squad there will be more chances to play next month.
United are set to play seven matches in September with games in the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup.
The Portuguese coach is ready to rotate his squad to give opportunities to Memphis Depay, Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ashley Young and Marcus Rashford.

However, Bastian Schweinsteiger will not feature with reports in Germany suggesting United are willing to accept a cut-price fee of £2m to ensure they get the 31-year-old German midfielder off their books before the transfer deadline.

if Phil Jones move to Stoke, Mourniho's hand will be stronger - which i think it will be.

Jones will want to leave to keep a chance with Sam Allarydace team.

I dun think they will release Jones unless they have an immediate replacement. The CB position is way too thin and besides Jones is one of the few first team British players left in the squad.

They will need to address replacements for the likes of Carrick,Rooney and Ibra in the next year or two. Would prefer they bring in a CB this season if we are to stand any chance of winning silverware, preferably someone with aerial strength and speed. It would be a massive signing for sure.

This transfer window is turning into a comedy of sorts for the Gooners. Poor planning on the part of Wenger and the fact that he scrimps and scrape makes it even more laughable...

Wenger behaves like this every year just before the window shuts in Sept and Jan. Given their mediocre start to the season, I would say they're already out of the title race.

Unless he signs some talent soon, I can see the fans forcing him out of the Emirates

Manchester United stars told Bastian Schweinsteiger to stop watching wife Ana Ivanovic play tennis and work on his fitness before he was cast out

Manchester United players told Bastian Schweinsteiger to stop watching tennis and get fit when the Germany star was out injured last season.

Sportsmail understands a group of furious senior Old Trafford stars, fed up with seeing pictures of their team-mate watching his now-wife Ana Ivanovic as they laboured towards a fifth-place finish, approached the World Cup winner to make their feelings clear.

Outcast Schweinsteiger was informed in no uncertain terms that members of the squad were tired of seeing him globe-trotting while they thought he should have been concentrating on his recovery in Manchester.......................................................

MARTIAL FLAW
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho tells Anthony Martial
to raise his game after a recent dip in form

Frenchman has struggled in front of goal for Red Devils despite starting in both games so far in Premier League

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...to-raise-his-game-after-a-recent-dip-in-form/

Jose Mourinho has warned Anthony Martial he must raise his game after lacklustre start

JOSE MOURINHO
has told Anthony Martial to raise his game.

Mourinho has held heart-to-heart talks with the Manchester United striker over his dip in form.

The United chief fears that his chaotic personal life is starting to affect his performances on the field.
Martial, 20, recently split from childhood sweetheart Samantha and has been subjected to a series of public attacks from his ex-girlfriend.

A United source said: “Standards have been raised under Jose and he wants his players to be focused on United.
“Martial is going through a tough time off the pitch, but it’s down to him to sort it out. The manager’s made him well aware of that.”

Last summer’s £36m signing from Monaco has been substituted in United’s opening three fixtures.

Although Mourinho is off to a 100 per cent winning start, Martial has been subdued in his new role out on the left.

TEAM NEWS

Hull City defender Harry Maguire is available after recovering from an ankle injury.
However, caretaker manager Mike Phelan may be reluctant to make changes after back-to-back league wins.

Manchester United could name the same starting line-up that beat Southampton 2-0.
Midfielder Jesse Lingard is in contention after returning to full training this week following an injury sustained in the Community Shield.

MOTD COMMENTATOR'S NOTES
Martin Fisher: "Two clubs boasting 100% starts - one expected, the other surely the biggest shock of the campaign so far.
"Successive wins for Manchester United are an early indicator that Jose Mourinho won't take long in turning them into title challengers again.

"Meanwhile, Hull's six-point haul has already been stuffed inside the bag marked 'relegation fighting funds'.
"Mike Phelan has worked wonders with just 13 fit senior players on the books but can a makeshift centre-back like Jake Livermore really handle Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has quickly taken the Premier League in his imperious stride?
"And what about Sam Clucas versus Paul Pogba in midfield? Another tall order."
Twitter: @martfisher1

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAY

Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan: "I can't praise the players here enough. There's a great atmosphere around the place and everyone is smiling.
"It's another tough Premier League test for us on Saturday. It will be hard, but the players are relishing the challenge."

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Phelan: "I hope he gets the job [despite] losing the match.
"I think the reality is he's one of the most successful assistant managers in the country, in the Premier League.
"Now he has this job and he has managed to motivate and organise the people. Are they defensive? Yes. But that's the way they have found to get points. I think he deserves the job."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION
Hats off to Hull for their start to the season with six points out of six, and the way they are playing too.
But this is the Tigers' toughest game so far by a long way. This Manchester United side can score goals from all over the pitch and they are starting to get their swagger back too.

Prediction: 0-2

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
Hull City are winless in their past 11 league and cup games against Manchester United, losing 10 of those matches.
The last meeting saw Hull claim their first Premier League point against the Red Devils on the final day of the 2014-15 season. That match saw the Tigers relegated (results elsewhere meant even a win would not have kept them up).
United have had a player sent off in their past two visits to Hull (Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia).
Hull's last win against Manchester United was a 2-0 home victory in a second-tier game on 23 November 1974, when Malcolm Lord and Ken Wagstaff scored.

Hull City

  • Hull caretaker manager Mike Phelan has made just one substitution in two league games so far - with the player he brought on, Shaun Maloney, registering a goal and an assist after coming off the bench at Swansea last weekend.
  • Victory would see Hull become only the second newly-promoted side to win their opening three Premier League games, following in the footsteps of Bolton in the 2001-02 season.
  • Only once before has a team been relegated after winning their opening two Premier League games (Wolves in 2011-12). No side has gone down after beginning with three consecutive victories.
  • Hull have used the fewest players in the Premier League this term (12) but have had the most different goalscorers (four).
  • Abel Hernandez has scored five goals in his past seven league games for Hull, excluding the play-offs.
  • Ahmed Elmohamady has appeared in every one of Hull City's 78 Premier League matches since the start of 2013-14.

Manchester United

  • United have won their opening three matches of a Premier League season on four previous occasions (2003, 2005, 2006 and 2011) but only in 2006-07 did they go on to win the title.
  • They are one short of 700 away defeats in the top flight.
  • The Red Devils are also two short of becoming the first team to score 800 Premier League away goals.
  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored three goals in his first two league appearances.
  • The player to score the most goals in their first three Premier League games is Pavel Pogrebnyak - who netted five times in three matches for Fulham in February 2012.
  • Ibrahimovic has scored in 25 of his past 31 league appearances (41 goals in total).
  • Wayne Rooney has scored seven goals in his last five Premier League games against Hull City.
SAM's verdict
Most probable score: 0-1Probability of draw: 24%
Probability of home win: 19%Probability of away win: 56%

Marshal, Mata n Rooney under threat from yesterday performance.

I reckon marshal will be on the bench against man c. Rooney n Mata might still make it. But the clock is ticking on Rooney. He partially caused the attacks to choke due to his speed. Or the lack of it.

Ibrahimovic is class even his pass is unorthodox.

It will be a cracker against Man C. I hazard a draw though.

Martial was clearly lightweight, similar with his forays from left in past matches. Matters of the heart?
So Rashford sub was proven right and fitting.

Mata for all his footwork, is noticeably dwarfed in team play.

The Swede deserves his ego

Seeing the way Hull put up the shutters, i wonder what will be the outcome if LVG & Moyes is still in charge

LVG- due to his conservative approach, Man U have no clue about how to crack the defence, sidewards and backwards passing will continue. Marshal will try to penetrate the flanks with his dribbling, hence the penetration by Rooney for the winning goal will take place, but, his pass into the goal mouth will not be met by anyone because no one will be running inside to try his luck.

Moyes - continue to pump high balls, hoping that Fellani will be on luck to head the goal. There will be no Marshal becuase Moyes wont be convinced to splash the cash in the first place. Juanzaj will not have the flair to do that.

Manchester United want to add two more defenders with Jose Fonte and Fabinho among the top options

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-want-add-two-8724916

AT least two senior Old Trafford players will need to be shown the exit door if Mourinho is to get his wish of improving United's strength at the back.

fonte%2028.8_zpsdyfqovhm.jpg

MANCHESTER United are continuing their efforts to make two additions to the English Premier League club's defensive options.
The attempts to strengthen the centre and right side of Jose Mourinho's back four remain dependent on convincing at least two senior squad members to leave Old Trafford on permanent or season-long transfers.

Ideally, United will add both an experienced central defender and an elite-level right back to Mourinho's squad. The Portuguese wants to add quality and height in both positions, with Southampton captain Jose Fonte and AS Monaco's athletic Brazil international Fabinho leading candidates for the two roles.

Fonte, the subject of a £9million offer from Everton earlier in the summer transfer window, has asked Southampton to honour a gentleman's agreement that he be allowed to leave the South Coast club should the 32-year-old be offered significantly superior financial terms elsewhere.
Earlier this month the Portugal international stated that he felt “flattered to be associated with a club like Manchester United”.

Regarded as one of the best right backs in the European game, the 1m88-tall Fabinho has been aware of Mourinho's interest in him throughout a summer in which he helped Monaco qualify for the Champions League group stage.
The 22-year-old has been told that a transfer could still go before Wednesday's deadline. "With the Champions League it's not bad staying at Monaco," said Fabinho last week. "I'm not certain of staying, but at the same time, there's more of a chance of me staying than leaving."

In an effort to make room for the new central defender, United have been working on a deal to sell Marcos Rojo to Valencia as one replacement for Arsenal-bound Shkodran Mustafi. The Spanish Liga club are understood to be ready to pay up to €10m for the Argentina international, who has not featured in Mourinho's matchday squad since being an unused substitute for United's opening Premier League fixture at Bournemouth.

In addition to the forced sale of Mustafi to Arsenal, Valencia have been voluntarily trying to offload their Tunisia centre back Aymen Abdennour before the window closes.

Abdennour's representatives are understood to have held discussions with Everton, Leicester City and AC Milan over a transfer that would increase the possibility of Rojo's switch. Valencia have also been working on the purchase of fellow Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay from Zenit St Petersburg.
Rojo rejected a lucrative offer to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG earlier in the window in favour of remaining in European football.

Although Monaco are amongst the Argentine's other suitors, the Ligue 1 club have only proposed a deal in which United part-finance the 26-year-old's salary.
While their preference would be to sell Louis van Gaal signing Rojo, United also have the option of placing Phil Jones on loan to another Premier League club having fielded inquiries for the England international from both Hull and Stoke City.
Creating space for a new right back, however, has proved more problematic.

Mourinho has selected Antonio Valencia ahead of Matteo Darmian for all four of United's competitive fixtures this season, and would not stand in the way of the Italy international should he choose to seek guaranteed playing time elsewhere.Mourinho has selected Antonio Valencia ahead of Matteo Darmian for all four of United's competitive fixtures this season, and would not stand in the way of the Italy international should he choose to seek guaranteed playing time elsewhere.

Napoli are in the market for a right back in Serie A, while AC Milan's new owners have drawn up a medium-term plan to upgrade the Serie A club's entire squad. Publicly, United have sought to downplay the possibility of further transfer market activity following the what Mourinho described as the four “fundamental” acquisitions of Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba.

"I have 23 players in the squad and, in principle, there is nobody leaving and nobody is coming,” said Mourinho on Friday.
"Twenty-three players is more than enough and, if you have a problem or an opportunity, then I have a few young players in the Academy that I will be more than happy to give an acceleration in their process.”

DO WOT?! Liverpool legend Aldo DEFENDS Mourinho and Man Utd...

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has branded critics wrong claiming Jose Mourinho's Manchester United a chequebook team.

Writing for the Sunday World, Aldo declares those who say United are trying to "buy the title" are out of order.

He wrote: "Jose Mourinho will be accused of buying the Premier League title if his Manchester United side end up as champions - but I don't think that accusation can be thrown at him any more.

"There is a very simple rule that needs to be followed in the most extravagant trans*fer window ever and it reads something like this; join the madness, or get left behind.

"That is precisely what Mour*inho and United have done with their lavish summer of spend*ing that has included the £89m deal for Paul Pogba, the £30m capture of defender Eric Bailly and purchase of Henrikh Mkhitaryan for around £26m..............................................

This scouser got it right. It's a rebuilding process that may take years. Our cheque book manager is doing just that-get the core or spine right and build around it. I hope Mou will stick around longer to see his efforts bear fruits. He's on the right path. What is different from the past seasons is there's a lot more purpose and conviction on the part of the manager and club to get things right. Well done!!!!

I was watching man c vs west ham, clearly guadialo is building his team like Barca. The triangles are forming and that's how they scored the third goal.

Scary - in one season or so, they will be formidable. I hope Mourinho has sustainability in this team that he is building.

A lot of the hard work was done by Manuel Pellegrini and Brian Kidd. Hughes was rubbish and Mancini was the man who shook things up and changed the way they play as a team. Guardiola will make our neighbours a force to be reckon with but Mou will make us invincible!!!

if we look at Mou's record vs Guardiola in Spain, it tips to the Spaniard.
Back in BPL, Mou has the experience.
lets see whether he can turn the tables here in UK.
