He was watching two police officers detain a female suspect when one of them shouted at him to move away.

He punched the officer in the face and got arrested as well.

Yesterday, Tay Hock Choon, 51, was jailed for three months for voluntarily causing hurt to the public servant.

Court papers said Tay was having drinks at V Restaurant in Lorong 13 Geylang at about 8.40pm on Oct 5 last year.

Criminal Investigation Department officer Muhammad Azzar Samsuddin, 28, and his partner were carrying out anti-vice enforcement duties in the area. They spotted a female suspect seated at the back alley of the restaurant. She fled into the restaurant when she saw them approaching and the officers gave chase.

CROWD

Inside the restaurant, they identified themselves as police officers and managed to restrain her.

The struggle drew a crowd of onlookers, including Tay, who had gathered to watch, but ended up blocking the front entrance of the restaurant.

Mr Azzar, who was trying to lead the suspect out of the restaurant, once again identified himself as a police officer before ordering the onlookers to move away.

Tay punched Mr Azzar in the face and was arrested. Mr Azzar later sought treatment at Changi General Hospital for facial injuries. He was given a day's medical leave.

Yesterday, Tay pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing hurt to a police officer in the execution of his duty.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Kelly Ho said Tay had attacked a vulnerable part of the officer and that it was not his first violent crime.

Tay had been jailed 42 months and given six strokes of the cane for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous means, among other offences, in 2008.

Tay, who was not represented by a lawyer, asked for leniency. He could have been jailed up to seven years, caned and fined.

The softie judge should have jailed this scum for three years, not just three months, for attacking the mata mata.

If he wanted to act like lao tah of Geylang, the mata mata should have tasered him as well. In USA, the cop would have shot the scum. A violent scum needs to be punished harshly. The scum has a criminal record and yet, the softie judge punished him as if he was a school kid for stealing candy.

If you have an ineffective SPF, all criminals will get garung.

Mata mata performing their duties, not at fault, lah. In Geylang area, already swarming with criminals and triad members. Mata mata if softie like judges sure cannot perform their duties. Have to act like real law enforcers.

When punched, the officer should have at least tasered the attacker, if no balls to open fire. If SPF officers not tough enough to do their jobs in Geylang area, the scums in that area will kill them one day. Pappies are already dumb. Lets not put the ordinary mata mata life at risk.

It just goes to show that the Police have lost ground. A drunk punching an officer? What next - schoolboy suspects can only be questioned by their parents?

During the struggle with the female, Criminal Investigation Department officer Muhammad Azzar Samsuddin farted into Tay's face and did not say 'Excuse Me'. Tay took exception and socked him one. This is the real deal story.

in the u.s. that "uncle" would have been shot at least 69 times to put him out of his misery.

He ain't drunk... he protector of that female prostitute ... these pimps are everywhere in Geylang to protect their chickens. He punched mata mata to show he got balls to be pimp and hoping his chicken got chance to escape during commotion created.

Blame it on softie sissy judge for sending him to jail with a rap on knuckles ... pimp will be back in action after jail. What is 3 months jail when he needs to serve only 2 months?

some years ago, cid started a new squad/branch whatever. can't recall the name now. officers from the land divisions were seconded to cid for the purpose of suppressing the FLs in geylang. see and arrest thing. i think it is a 1-2 year posting thing coz they don't want these officers to be too familiar with the operators. also, you need new faces for these enforcement rounds.

these aren't your seasoned lau bengs from ssb/cid. i am very sure if ampai jack was walking around the same place, he wouldn't have got punched. same for the late tua pek kong, ah heng, ah chong and those notorious bastards from ssb. but these buggers succeeded in instilling fear in the ss. not the current schoolboy type of detectives.

51 yo means one foot in the coffin liao

Singapore's life expectancy is amongst the highest in the world with the average male expected to live well into his 80s.

If you consider a 51 year old to have one foot in the coffin you can't blame companies for refusing to hire middle ages PMETs.
